PONTELAND NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH VMX PAGE BANNER

VMX - WHAT’S THAT?

VMX is a valuable method of getting news of criminal activities to residents who want to do something about them.

It is a computerised Voice Mail System (VMX) which allows Northumbria Police to send recorded messages from the Command Unit at Bedlington Police Station Neighbourhood Watch office to a selected distribution list of Neighbourhood Watch Scheme members.

The benefit of the V.M.X. system is the rapid circulation of information to Contact Persons. All intended recipients are dialled up in turn and on entering a security code the message is relayed to them. Anyone can be connected to this system provided they have been cleared as a N.H.W. Contact Person.

To be entered on the system you are required to give your authorisation to receive messages, a pro-forma for your signature can be obtained from the Bedlington N.H.W. Desk.

The V.M.X. system has now been operating for twelve months and has been well received by the majority of the recipients. For NHW schemes to be fully effective it is essential that the members are fully aware of up-to-date crime and crime trends in the area.

Many of the schemes in Ponteland are already receiving information through this system and passing it on to the residents of their areas which is resulting in an excellent feedback of useful information from residents. Messages received via the V.M.X. system should be passed to as many members of your N.H.W. scheme as possible.

The only requirement is a ‘touch tone” telephone that is not connected to an answerphone. The number of calls that will be received depends entirely on the amount of crime that any area is experiencing, but usually is about one or two per month.
