FORMAL LOCAL ECUMENICAL PARTNERSHIPS (LEPs)

This page was last updated on 13 May 2009

Please note that e-mails and website addresses are links to our composite links page
where you will find the full details.

Under the 1996 Constitutional Guidelines approved by the Churches Together in England Group for Local Unity, a Local Ecumenical Partnership (LEP) is defined as existing
"where there is a formal written agreement affecting the ministry, congregational life, buildings and/or mission projects of more than one denomination: and a recognition of that agreement by the Sponsoring Body (i.e. for those in Kent, Churches Together in Kent) and authorisation by the appropriate denominational authorities".  Only LEPs which conform to these criteria are listed here as Local Ecumenical Partnerships.

Other valuable areas of ecumenical endeavour, which can no longer be classed as formal local ecumenical partnerships are listed separately (select as above). These areas will continue to be supported by Churches Together in Kent, but the formal ‘Sponsoring’ and ‘reviewing’ role of Churches Together in Kent will be limited to those LEPs listed below, where the appropriate formal agreements are in place.

KEY to LEP TYPE (as per definitions of Churches Together in England)

1 = Single Congregation Partnerships
2 = Churches in Covenanted Partnership with a substantial sharing in worship, church life, mission and ministry
3 = Shared Building Partnerships (with a sharing agreement under The Sharing of Church Buildings Act, 1969)
4 = Chaplaincy Partnerships e.g. Higher and Further Education, Prisons, Health Care
5 = Mission Partnerships e.g. Industry, Commerce, Broadcasting
6 = Education Partnerships e.g. Lay Training, Ministerial Training, Joint Schools
