Styles of Worship at St Lawrence's
St Lawrence Church is a Church
of England parish church, and most of our services follow
one of the authorised patterns of the Church of England.
We also hold, however, less formal
occasional services (e.g. Taizé or Iona), and
on some 5th Sundays in the month we might have a Songs of Praise.
In the spirit of the Covenant and Ecumenical Welcome
we have with the local Methodist and United Reformed Churches we will on
occasion deliberately adopt parts of these churches' liturgies.
The authorised patterns of the Church of
England include
| The Book of Common Prayer ("BCP") |
The services as authorised in AD 1662, and which use
'traditional' language: (thee/thine/willest/ ...)
|
| Common Worship ("CW") |
The services as authorised in AD 2000, and which use mostly
modern language (you/yours/will/ ...).
Some of the more usual prayers are better known, and therefore
used, in
their more traditional form, for example the Lord's Prayer:-
"Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name; .." |
