Facilitation— Making things easier!

Facilitation implies to conduct activities before, during and after a meeting to help the group achieve its own objectives. Using a range of skills and methods to bring the best out in people, including their creativity, we help groups to make decisions and achieve optimum results in meetings and problem solving sessions. 

Facilitation is particularly beneficial with disparate members forming a group and when attempting to resolve complex or sensitive problems.  In many group meetings, the model in use is that of unilateral control; getting others to do what you want!  The assumption here is that those who see it differently don’t understand the situation or have questionable motives.  This strategy inevitably results in misunderstanding, defensiveness and a reduced level of commitment to the final decision.

When acting as the “Facilitator”, we establish principles and employ guidelines based on mutual learning, where differences are seen as opportunities for learning, where each member can see some part of the puzzle which when put together increases the Group’s understanding and total effectiveness.  By agreeing a set of working guidelines and encouraging members to work to them, the outcomes have been increased buy-in, reduced defensiveness and working as an effective team to achieve the highest standards of group performance.
