The Colchester Youth Chamber Orchestra (CYCO) is run by a volunteer committee of parents, who usually have little if any musical knowledge, just a willingness to help and a degree of enthusiasm.

The committee members and prime points of contact are noted below. Also included is a brief description of the roles the various committee members play.

George Reynolds is our Director & Conductor. He is in charge of the music, handles the auditions, the appointment of the leader and principals, the choice of music etc. However, the day to day running of the orchestra is the responsibility of the committee.

The functions of the various committee roles are:

The Chairman is the 'lead'. He/she organises meetings, sets the agenda and is the main point of contact for parents or outside organisations as a general point of contact. (it should be noted that all committee members are accessible to all parents!).

The Treasurer keeps the books and is responsible for CYCO's finances.

The Secretary keeps the minutes of meetings, copies of correspondence and archives. He/she also keeps a list of deputies for players who are absent from concerts.

The Recruitment Secretary co-ordinates recruitment (a job for all parents), organises auditions and liaises with George about new members.

Many of these jobs overlap and the committee is always grateful for any help offered by parents who may not be able to join the committee but can contribute effort, knowledge or expertise on occasion.

CYCO also has a Junior Orchestra. This is run by Jessie Threadgold for orchestral players from grade 1 upwards, until they are ready to join the main orchestra. Please contact one of the above if you are interested in joining it.
