Our Past, Achievements & Successes

CYCO has played at the Royal Festival Hall and St. John's, Smith Square, broadcast on radio and appeared on television.

We have commissioned new works including 'Colchester Suite' by Alan Bullard in 1983,'The Forest Tomorrow?' by Geoffrey Winters in 1987 and 'The Boy And The Dolphin' by Jonathan Dove in 1991.

CYCO regularly enters the regional heats for the nationwide competition 'Music for Youth', which has led to an appearance in the final held at the Royal Festival Hall.

Tours of the continent have included trips to Hamburg and Avignon. In Summer 1997 the orchestra toured Lake Garda, combining three concerts with excursions to Venice and the opera in Verona. 1998 took the orchestra to Avignon, Colchester's twin town in the south of France, performing three concerts as well as enjoying outings to the local area.

Many CYCO players over the years have played in the County Youth Orchestras of both Essex and Suffolk, in the European Youth Orchestra, the National Youth Wind Orchestra and as many as 30 have played with the National Youth Orchestra.
