So the date for the Interview is in your diary…but are you prepared?

Here are some great questions to ask yourself…to ensure you are really prepared to be at your best on interview day!!

Before you start…have you uncovered yet…

What is it you really want to do?

Why do you want to do it…what really drives you…what are your passions?

What difference will you make to others and to the community/organisation?

About your Experience:

What experience to date have you…(if you are entering a new field it’s good to think outside the box, Are you up to date with current issues facing the industry…what are they? What are your opinions/feelings about them?)

Do you know or know of people in the community/industry/organisation you are looking to join?

About you:

First think what are the key things you would like them to remember about you…think about some experiences in the past you can share to demonstrate these qualities….and in the interview look for ways you can introduce these stories

Some questions you may well be asked…and to be prepared for…

Why do you really want this job?…where would you like to be in 5/10 years time?

What qualifications, projects or outside interests do you have which are relevant to this opportunity and why…?

How would someone who knows you very well describe your best qualities?

How would someone who knows you very well describe your worst qualities?….be able to handle anything you say here…eg you can come across as impatient sometimes…because you become so eager to get on with the project…

What do you most want to learn discover…how do you feel this opportunity will help you?

What was the last unusual, exciting or spontaneous event YOU instigated?

Who do you really admire and why?

What is your greatest regret and why?

When was the last time you laughed out loud and why?

Describe something you would do if you knew you wouldn't get caught:

Can you ever remember feeling intimidated…how did you react….did you learn anything about yourself through that experience..if so what?

Do you have any unusal hobbies or talents?

Can you describe a situation when you were involved in potenital conflict? What happened?

Can you describe a situation when you did not get the outcome you felt you wanted, what happened…what did you learn?

What do you feel is the most impressive thing you have ever done?

About the organisation or role:

Why in particular do you want to apply to this organisation…if you do not yet know.. the following questions may help you find the answers…

Some of the following questions you may find the answers to before you arrive …others will make excellent questions to your interviewer at the end and demonstrate you are really thinking about their business…and why you want to join..

Do you know who will be interviewing you or how many?

What format will the interview take…have you asked if there is anything you can prepare?

Is there a way you might be able to speak to anyone in the team before you arrive

Have you investigated their website and marketing material…looked at their existing customers….who are they what do they say about the organisation you are applying to?

Has there been any recent media/PR coverage of the organisation

Who are their competitors? How do you feel this organisation is distinct from their competitors

What is the organisations vision and mission

What is their culture (eg efficient professional, young funky, etc)

What new challenges/opportunities are they facing at the moment

How old/established are they…how long have they been in business

How have they grown profits/revenues and what are their projections for the future..
