The
2007 Rugeley
Singles Champion,
Dave Diamond Shaw
has tasted his
first ever taste
of defeat in the
tournament at this
years
Quarter-Final
stage as team mate
and favourite for
the title, Lee
Grout knocked him
out.
Both members of
the Rileys Boys
team were trying
to get in the
Semi-Finals where
Jamie Houston
(Pear Tree Club)
has already
qualified. Lee now
meets the winner
of Matt Hyden
(Boys) v Paul
Ratcliffe (Mossley),
while Jamie will
face the
winner of Ash
Max-Keys (Club)
and Scott Price
(Boys)
Matt Hyden is
attempting to be
the first player
in 20 years to win
the Singles and
Doubles in the
same season. |
|
Rugeley
started the season
at home to a very
strong Cannock
team who play most
of their matches
from Rileys in
Rugeley and left
with a comfortable
win.
Rugeley could have
easily taken a few
of the early
frames, but missed
their chances and
were soon 0-5
down. Cannock
reached the needed
10 frames early in
the second half,
but Rugeley
continued to
battle and took
some good wins
with a host of new
players.
Nick Pascall and
Andy Mayers, both
making their
debuts in the
Super League won
both their frames
while Mick Tooth
took an 8 ball
clearance and
Karen Morgan
gained a deserved
win.

benefits for both
parties.
Watch this space !
RILEYS will be
bringing in a

for the league
with details to be
announced soon.
They will however
be backing the
Inter League team
for 2008 which
features many new

UNDER 21'S
CHAMPIONSHIP |
We
are going to stage
an Under 21's
Tournament in 2008
which will be open
to anyone that is

January 1st 2008.
Entrants do not
have to be
registered members
of the League and
may come from
outside the
boundaries set by
the League. The
exact format will
depend on the
number of
entrants, but it
is likely to be
held on
consecutive
Saturdays at
Rileys around May.
Anyone interested,
or knows someone
that may want to
enter, then please
put it in writing
and send it to

2007
Doubles Champions,
Kevin Opie and
Scott Price have
been kicked out of
this years
tournament for
playing a match at
a different venue
than the one
selected on the
set night which
can only be done
before the due
date..
They
were due to face
Gerry Holland and
Ian Grant at
Libbys on Thursday
15th November, but
decided between
themselves, to
play the match at
another venue not
used as a venue in
competitions.
There was a
warning given to
Kevin Opie about
playing elsewhere
on the night, but
all this fell on
deaf ears and not
only went ahead
with the match,
but also covered
it up by lying
about it and
getting others
involved in the
lies.
At an Executive
Meeting tonight,
it was decided
that both pairings
were guilty and
both pairings were
fined £5 per
player and kicked
out of the
competition. |

| PEAR
TREE TO CLOSE |
The
Pear Tree Inn will close its doors
for the last time on Saturday 20th
October after the land was sold
by the Brewery for housing

The venue has been Head Quarters
for the Rugeley Pool League for
most of the years and Harry
Richardson was Chairman for most
of that time while son, Dave later
held that post until a few years
ago.
The league will hold the 2007
Presentation at the Pear Tree this
Saturday with the first ever
handing over of the Harry
Richardson Cup to The Pear Tree
Boys. |
|
| WINDMILL
WIN SUMMER SHIELD |
The
Windmill won a tight Summer Shield
Final at The Mossley with a last
frame decider required to beat the
favourites and defending
champions, Pear Tree Boys.
Windmill went into an early 2-0
lead, but were pegged back as the
boys won the next three before
Windmill levelled by taking the
doubles.
That left 2007 Singles Champion,
Dave Shaw come forward for The
Boys to play Iain McLean and the
underdog came through to take the
title back to Lichfield. |
|
| POTTERS
WIN CHAIRMAN'S CUP |
Pear
Tree Potters defeated The Swan
from Armitage 4-2 in the first
ever staging of the Chairman's Cup
Final at The Castle.
After a poor Summer League season,
the potters lifted the title with
a win in the doubles leaving the
mid season entrants from Armitage
with the runners up spot. |
|
| BO
JOLLIES WIN SUMMER TITLE |
BO
JOLLIES have lifted the Summer
Division One title after securing
an emphatic 5-1 win over the
visiting Windmill team on the last
night.
Their nearest rivals, Pear Tree
Boys who were defending champions,
finished the season with a loss
anyway as they went down 4-2 at
Mossley A.
Ashley Maxwell-Keys also won most
wins, losing just one frame. |
|
| HOPE
& ANCHOR CROWNED CHAMPIONS |
Hope
& Anchor wrapped up the Third
Division Summer League title last
night with a 5-1 victory at home
to Vine A which now puts them at
least 8 points clear with just two
matches left.
Green Man are expected to be
confirmed as Division Two winners
next week. |
|
Rugeley
Super League team entertained
Trent Trophies B at Rileys and
went down to a poor 6-12 scoreline.
Matt Hyden did well to win both
frames, but on the night the team
made bad mistakes, played some
poor shots and never had the run
of the balls which resulted in the
worst defeat we have ever recieved
in the last two years.
Matt Hyden 2, Mick Tooth 1, Scott
Price 1, Dave Shaw 1, Lee Grout 1,
Grahame Darlington 0, Kevin Opie
0, Christian Jerome 0 and Dave
Richardson 0. Ash Max Keys did not
play. |

Rugeley
travelled to Hanley,
Stoke-on-Trent to play the
powerful Trent Trophies A team in
the latest round of the
Staffordshire Super League and
almost pulled off a shock victory
before losing the last three,
losing 10-8.
Scott Price missed a golden chance
to beat England U-21 star, Liam
White in the first frame but Karen
Morgan levelled the scores in
frame two. Former World Champion,
Gareth Potts then 8 balled Matt
Hyden while fellow England
Internationals, Daz Lightfoot and
Adam Davis followed up by beating
Mick Tooth and Christian Jerome to
lead 4-1.
Dave Shaw hit back beating County
A regular, Steve Bridgwood and
Grahame Darlington then beat
England skipper, Lee Kendall to
bring it back to 4-3 and Lee Grout
then levelled the match beating
Darren Henshall. Kevin Opie fell
short in frame nine with Darren
Shone taking the frame.
After a short break, Matt Hyden
and Mick Tooth put Rugeley 5-6 up
with wins over Liam White and
Jamie Latham. Gaz Potts then
defeated Scott Price but Kevin
Opie made it 6-7 with a good win
over British Open Champion, Adam
Davis.
Darren Lightfoot levelled at 7-7
with a tight win over Karen Morgan
but Christian Jerome put Rugeley
within touching distance of the
finish line by defeating Lee
Kendall who was well off form on
the night. (7-8 up)
Needing one frame to at least
secure a draw, Lee Grout made a
costly mistake in frame 16 to
leave Steve Bridgwood a clear shot
on the black to pull one back for
the Defending Champions. to level
the scores yet again.
Dave Shaw battled hard against Daz
Henshall but finally fell short
only to leave Darren Shone to
snatch victory 10-8 at the
final hurdle with a goods
clearance to beat Grahame
Darlington.
Congratulations to all 9 Rugeley
players who gave the big names of
Pool a scare and nearly beat a
full strength team that consists
of 5 England players and 4 County
players. |

The
British Legion have been taken out
of the Summer Third Division with
immediate affect after failing to
turn up to their last three league
matches. It is hoped that The Swan
in Armitage will take over their
fixtures. |

| CASTLE
CLOSE TO NATIONALS |
ADMIRAL
TAVERNS CHALLENGE - The
Castle team have so far defetated
a number of teams from around the
midlands area and now have one
final hurdle to over come to reach
the finals on July 14th.
They now have to face the strong
Alladin's Lamp team from
Wolverhampton (1st and 8th July) who
defeated one of last years team in
the qualifiers. This year the two
teams have combined with a 10
player squad of Dave Shaw, Lee
Grout, Scott Price, Christian
Jerome, Dave Richardson, Matt
Hyden, Kevin Opie, Karen Morgan,
Andy Rawlinson and Grahame
Darlington. |
|
At
the AGM tonight, the only two
changes were the renaming of the
Billy Mills Trophy to the John
Murray Trophy in recognition of
his service to the league over the
last 20+ years.
There turned out to be one change
on the executive with Lee Grout
replacing June Richardson who was
relected, but decided to withdraw
shortly after the meeting.
We therefore welcome Super Leeds
Lee to the executive. |

Rugeley
swept aside the Alsager Inter
League team on Friday with an easy
11-7 victory over Alsager,
Stoke-on-Trent at Rileys in
Rugeley.
Rugeley raced to a 6-3 interval
lead before Alsager started a mini
revival to bring it back to 8-6,
but Rugeley held their nerve to
take three of the last four frames
for another two points and now
find themselves fourth in the
table.

SHAW - 2007 SINGLES CHAMPION |
Dave
Shaw of the Pear Tree Boys
is the new holder of the Rugeley
Pool League Singles Championship
after defeating Dave Leeke 4-2 in
the final last night at HQ.
The
match was finished with Diamond
Dave taking the sixth frame with
an 8 ball clearance to take the
title at his first attempt and to
add to his League and two Cup
titles he has achieved in 2007
already.
Dave started the tournament as one
of the favourites to land the
title and has justified that with
this win. |
|
Pear

HARRY
RICHARDSON CUP FINAL
PEAR TREE BOYS 8-7 BO
JOLLIES
PEAR
TREE BOYS won the Harry
Richardson Final in a tense match
with both legs being won by the
home team 4-3, leaving it all
square at 7-7.
The result had to be decided in a
single frame play-off with Dwight
Wood selected for Bo Jollies and
Matt Hyden selected for The Boys.
Matt broke off and went for an 8
ball clearance, but failed and
Dwight clawed his way back into
the frame.

When
Dwight was given two visits it
looked like BJ's were home and
dry, but Matt was let back in and
when Dwight went for a double, the
white went around the table and
into the bottom corner, leaving
Matt two shots on his last red and
the black to lift the title.
Bo Jollies had led the first leg
4-1 down at their venue, but lost
both doubles frames to make the
tie well balanced. Pear Tree took
a 3-1 lead in the second leg to go
6-5 up, but BJ's hit back to take
the next two and lead 7-6 going
into the final frame. Boys took
that and the decider was set up.

June Richardson, Harry's wife was
there to see the title won with
Dave skippering the side and Pablo
Richardson there to see the trophy
stay at HQ where Harry was
landlord for many a year.

times. |
