RUGELEY GET FIRST WIN

Rugeley played hosts to the much respected Trent Trophies B team from Stoke on Trent in their third match of the season, but their first match to be played at the home venue of Rileys.

After a 12-6 trouncing at Stafford A, then a respected 10-8 loss also at Stafford, Rugeley have started to find their true potential after a 9-9 score in the cup two weeks ago.

In this home fixture, Rugeley didnt just show home table advantage, they showed some excelent play that had the Stokies lost for words.

It started off in style when Adam Haycock was given two visits early on and cleared up from a difficult position with great cue ball control.

New Singles Champion, Kevin Opie then did his usual sprint around the table while Kaz Morgan out played her opponent in a tactical frame on the other table.

At 3-0 up, we expected to lose the next as Scott Turner was on ! However, Scotty played a very good game and was then followed by winas for Matt Hyden, Kaz Tomkinson and Mick Tooth to put the scores at 7-0.

Feeling sorry for the young potters, I gifted them the next frame with an in-off near the end of the frame but Ashley Maxwell-Keys won to mae it 8-1 at the half time stage

After the break, Stoke started to hit back, taking the next two frames to make it 8-3, but Kev Opie then won to ensure a draw and Matt Hyden then won to secure Rugeley's much deserved first win.

In the final five frames, Stoke took four to leave the scores a more respectable 11-7, but the way the match went, proves Rugeley can mix it with the best in Staffordshire.

Well Done to all the players last night in a well deserved win.

NEXT MATCH;
Friday 30th June @ Trent Trophies Tuesday.

This is against the team we some how drew with in the cup match and still only lost in a decider, despite throwing away at least five frames.

We will try and get the minibus arranged for this fixture and will leave The Castle at 7.00pm on the night, no later.

SUPER LEAGUE - THIS FRIDAY

Guest writes "Rugeley are to play their first Super League match for a number of years on Friday when they travel to the Stafford Snooker Club.

All players should meet at the Pear Tree Inn around 7.00 - 715pm as the match is due to start at 8.00pm prompt as is an 18 frame match played on two tables.

Paul Ratcliffe is unavailable but hopefully Dave Richardson, Kev Opie, Ashley Maxwell-Keys, Paul Banks, Matt Hyden, Mick Tooth, Craig Hill, Kaz Tomkinson, Paul Brown and myself will be there and any other player willing to play or be a part of the squad.

I will most likley meet people there as I cant get away until 7.40pm and I'm sure Paul Banks will do likewise.

 RUGELEY IN THE MONEY

Guest writes "As you should be aware that Rugeley entered two teams in the Admiral Taverns competition, (the brewery that supplies The Castle)

Both Rugeley teams were selected to play in a group of four teams with a bye included in the four. The other team being from Stafford with the top two going through to the prize money stage.

Therefore it was assured at least one team would go through and now we are assured BOTH teams will be through as the Stafford venue no longer has a pool table !

Details of the next stage are uncertain as yet, but I believe it will be in Birmingham."

 MARCH MEETING

Guest writes "Sunday 5th March @ Pear Tree Pub

At the Executive meeting prior to the monthly meeting a few points were raised with the main one being discussed and voted on at 8.45pm after the main meeting.

It was raised that the Pear Tree Potters had played two players from outside the Rugeley & District Pool League boundaries without prior permission from the Exceutive as stated in the constitution.

This raised a long and debated views on the matter and was actually voted on twice.

At first the vote was for
A= Lose both games by 7-0 but not to be fined
B= Abide by constitution an lose both games 7-0 and fined £10.

The first vote went with option A but after further points made, the Executive then voted again on the incident and realised that rules are rules and by an over whelming vote, it was decided to go with Option B.

Pear Tree Potters lose both 7-0 and fined £10

It had at the meeting been asked by Dave Richardson, captain of the Potters that both players be allowed to play in the R&DPL IN FUTURE.

Views were varied and at 8.45pm it was passed that both players from the Cannock region be allowed to continue playing in the league.

The rule states that any team wishing to sign a player outside the R&DPL boundaries must first seek approval from the Executive prior to them playing.

Failure to do so results in those player/s being deemed illegal players and lose all game by 0-7

It should be pointed out that on the first occasion that these players played, it was pointed out by the secretary to Dave Richardson that he had gone against the rules and despite knowing the rules, the same two players played last Tuesday aswell.

No doubt that this will not be the last we have heard of the matter and a phone call by Dave Richardson who had left to play in Burntwood stated he may be asking for an EGM to be called.

Other matters = Draws given out along with a league table which is featured on this website now and a map/guide to the boundaries will be made available at the next meeting (however this will be spoken about at the next AGM)

Vine A left the meeting still owing for a player and the league tables will be modified when I get the match results that are affected by this as that player becomes an illegal player.

One of the Doubles Semi-Finals had been drawn to be played at the Pear Tree WMC but the representatives of the club at the meeting made it clear that they didnt want the venue being used for matches not involving their team or players. The match was switched to the Pear Tree Pub.

The Rugeley Super League team was bought up and it was made clear that we may be struggling to get 9 player to play the first match in Stafford

A long night and alot of petty issues were bought up and views.

See you all soon

 LEAGUE MEETING; 8th January 2006

A number of things were discussed at tonights meeting and here is a run down on some of the matters.

Pear Tree Potters V Pear Tree Club (20/12/2005)
A letter was recieved by the executive about the behaviour and language from some of the visiting team towards the bar staff.

After discussion with representatives that were present from both teams that were there on the night (Ex-Chairman and Arsene Wegner), it became clear that this was mainly down to one registered player and two non players.

It was decided that this registered player be sent a written warning from the executive and will also be spoken to by his team captain as to his behaviour.

Other items discussed have been placed in the forums under MONTHLY MEETING and include This Website, A mistake in the League tables and A Competition where Rugeley may enter a team (or two)
