A.G.M. Monday 21/8/06
After
a little confusion over the actual date of the meeting on previous weeks when
one or two league members arrived a little too early, (One week) myself
included, the meeting went well. There was a very good attendance and the
meeting was quite lively but nevertheless several issues were covered and
clarified.
The
outgoing chairman Neal Bott was not in attendance and was replaced by John
Perry. Graham was re-elected as Treasurer/Secretary and I will be
Secretary/Web-master. Committee members were elected in the shape of Phil Mason,
John Gartshore, Mark Turner and one of our more senior league members George Hylton.
Graham
covered the financial report and he pointed out that at last years Knock Outs
some of the delegated venue organisers did not run dart cards which would have
raised funds for the league. I have to admit that I was one of the guilty ones.
Graham
is hopeful of securing the great Phil Taylor for next year’s presentation. The
Castle contributed £300 and another £200 of the money paid to Phil came from
ticket sales. The rest of the cost was paid by the league. Graham pointed out
that Phil does not normally do presentations for leagues at any price and it is
only because he knows Phil that he will do it. He also said that if the Power
Station had been used as a venue instead of Libby's, so that more
tickets
could have been issued, Phil might not have agreed to do the honours as it
would have been less personal. Graham stated that the captains messed him about
over the number of tickets they required and did not tell him before the event.
This led to much unpleasantness on the night with people arriving at the last
minute demanding to be let in. This must be avoided next year.
Graham
stated that although the report showed £60 league fees were still owed they had
now been paid, but next year a firmer stance will be taken over late fees and
the league also decided that fines should be imposed on teams that persistently
send in late cards.
All
proposed changes in the format of matches were voted against by the league.
There had been suggestions to make the matches nomination start and the doubles
games only one leg.
It
was suggested to run a handicap cup and this was generally greeted with approval
by the league but the details will be decided at future meetings before it is
drawn next summer.
There
will be 16 teams in the league this season as against 14 last year and it was
pointed out that if the success of the league continues and it keeps growing
then we may have to split it into two divisions in future.
In
Any Other Business Phil brought up a couple of points on Bulling Up at the start
of a game. It seems that last year he caused a little upset with a couple of
teams by throwing for the bull in the doubles and then letting his partner throw
first for the double. It seems that he was perfectly correct in this assumption
and it is quite an acceptable practice, but it was made clear that when a
marker/checker is judging the two darts thrown at the bull, they not should
under any circumstances be moved, if they are at an angle, so that the marker
can see which is nearer. The only time a dart can be removed is when it is in
the 25/bull but there is no rule that says it must. It is common courtesy to do
though.
Graham
commented on the growing success of the web-site which was set up just before
last Xmas. Since January when I put on the hit counter it has received nearly 1000
hits.
Kaz,
(now at the Hope and Anchor) and her team were commended for continuing to play their
matches to the end of the season despite extremely difficult circumstances. It
was pointed out also that unlike some teams they were never a minute late for a
match.
Next
Bank Holiday Monday Graham will be running a Grand 201 Singles Knock Out at
Libby’s with a prize of £100. The game will be double start and best of 5
legs with an entrance fee of £2 per player. Hopefully the fixtures will all be
ready by then and the league will start the Monday afterwards on 4th
September.
