A Little News From Around The Boards
The
Rugeley Monday Night Darts League is ostensibly a men’s league, but ladies are
free to join as well if they feel that they can compete. Perhaps that may seem a
little chauvinistic and even arrogant because some of the ladies that do play in
our league are proving that they are more than a match for some of our better
male darts players.
Perhaps
the biggest shock was the other week when Jim Baird was beaten 2-0 by the Hope
And Anchor captain Jackie McFarlane. Jim is one of our better players, but he is
not the only one to have lost to this lady. She has in fact beaten 7 men in
league matches up until this week. A few weeks ago she also beat our beloved
leader Graham Jellyman 2-0 in the Captains Cup game.
Another
lady that has been known to ruffle a few feathers is Kaz Morgan of the Plough
who hit a splendid maximum 180 a few weeks ago.
Kaz has not played many games this season, but even so has managed to beat a few
of our male players in both singles and doubles games.
Also
in the
news this week is Thelma Marshall of the Moderation. Thelma has not taken any
matches yet, but has won a few legs. Her claim to fame is that before her game
this week against the Castle “A” she had 3 darts practice and with her first
3 darts of the night hit a 180. After 40 years of playing darts that was the
first one that she had ever hit. Unfortunately the score went to her head and
she then received 2 brushes in her game.
Other
people in the news this week, although I hasten to add, definitely not ladies,
are John “Ticker” Brindly of the Castle "A" who hit a 7 darter in
his game against the Moderation equaling Neil Bott’s performance of a few
weeks ago. Another player from the Hope making the headlines, one of Jackie's team mates, is E
McFarlane who played two legs in his match and unbelievably hit 2 X 160 starts
against Bob Perry from Libbys.
