Easter
Monday Knock Out.
The
first round had some upsets, not least for "Jammy" Alan
Hartley who seemed to have forgotten his jam because he was humiliated by
Peachey, losing two nil and nearly getting two brushes in the process! Martin
Ward had a couple of good games with the first having a 60 break followed
by 137 leaving double 2 which he got and his third leg which was over in 6
darts. The next round was a disaster for him as he was beaten by John
Gartshore of all people. HOW!
It’s
a young man’s game this is, or at least that is what George
Hylton now thinks after being beaten by young Spuggy
from the Swan in round two. It is definitely a game where a good counter who
knows the best way to finish has an advantage, because the game can be over so
fast that you have no time for mistakes.
The quarter final was best of 5 legs which Peachey
seemed to forget as he shook Will Hall’s hand
after going 2 nil up, but went on to win 3 nil anyway. In the semi final Peachey
had a 5 darter but still lost to Billy Bailey. The
other semi had an upset for Ticker who’s
finishing let him down. Ticker was on double 2 with Mark
Hylton back on a start but Mark broke with 41 and then somebody said ,
“You can get this” and he did. A 160 finish. Brilliant.
The final was Mark against young Billy and I think nerves got the better of
Billy but he had played well to get to the final and Mark, as always, played
consistently very well all through the night. Everybody now knows what
“Doubles For Dough” means! It is a game of nerves with doubles at the start
and finish being all important with no room for a big score. Well done to all
who turned up. There are a lot of good young guns in Rugeley so lets encourage
them. Lets get them in the league and put Rugeley on the map. There will be a
Summer Tournament in Rugeley that will be the BIG ONE. Lets see who’s got what
it takes!
Any
ideas for other events in the summer speak to me or Alan.
