Libbys V Pear Tree Club 5/3/07

The Pear Tree Club is of course the Old Globe side and as they are currently 5th in the league with Libbys at 2 place, the match was quite important for both teams. Boo and Scraggy from Libbys are both well known at the Club so there was also quite a bit of banter going on throughout the match between the teams.

Geof Taylor opened for Libbys against Mark Guy who put in a devastating first leg with an 8 dart game. He broke with 92 followed by 139 and finished off with 70, treble 10 and tops. Geof had a score of 137 during the short leg, but of course did not get a shot at a double. In the second leg Geof managed a score of 140, but he lost that as well.

The second game was Scraggy V Gormley. The result was 2-1 to Robby but although he nearly brushed Gormley in one leg he could have easily lost as he messed about.

The third game was Morgan for the Club against Thacker for Libbys. Thacker had double trouble and let Morgan steal the first leg but the final score was 2-1 to Libbys after some nip and tuck throwing.

Boo against Mounty in the next game was a little disappointing with Boo missing the start with his first 6 darts, whereas Mounty broke and did not take advantage until he hit a ton. Unfortunately Boo then broke with 140 and Mounty's lead had gone. The game was spoilt by both players messing about on their doubles which resulted with them ending up on double one. Boo won 2-0.

Daz Pockett was a little outclassed in the 5th against Marsh as he was still on 170 when Marsh finished the first leg, but Pockett just missed a 100 finish (20,48,32) and left himself 16 which he got with his next throw in the second leg. The third leg was much the same as the first with Daz making a late start just before Marsh finished making the score 2-1 to the Club.

Next followed a game of thump the electronic scoreboard as the Clubs team took it in turns to bash the traitorous scoreboard until they eventually managed to get it to work and changed the start scores to 501, then the doubles games started.

Gartshore and Thacker played for Libbys against Gormley and Marsh for the Club. Libbys built up a small lead, but Marsh put paid to that with a 140. Both pairs left Tops and John Gartshore was first to have a go but he missed it letting Marsh get it next throw. The second leg saw Marsh hit a 123, but Thacker dropped in a very timely 100 to catch up, however, it was not enough as Marsh took that leg as well to make the score 3-3 leaving it all up to the last doubles pairs.

As they say they left the best till last with Boo and Taylor (Geof not Phil) against Mounty and Guy. Both teams pairings were very strong and this was reflected in the game which started with a 112 break from Mounty and a reply of 120 from Boo. After some good scoring Geof hit a 137 leaving 22 for Boo to take the first leg. The second leg was a bit mixed with some messing about on the finish but Boo got it in the end to make the final score 4-3 to Libbys.
