Lichfield Open

Saturday the 18th of August saw the return of the Annual Lichfield Open darts competition which is held at the Enots Club. The competition is one of the largest and most prestigious local darts events. It is always well attended by many Staffordshire superstars who include a large number of the county players based in the area. Tony Eccles, Wayne Jones, Mark Robinson, Dave Honey competed as well as people that we all know such as John “Ticker” Brindley, Andy Macauley and Mark “Mile High” Hylton.

Andy “The Hammer” Hammilton was perhaps one of the favourites and he did not let his fans down by beating our very own Mark Hylton 4-2 in an excellent match in the semis. Mark was disappointed and felt that he should have taken the score against the Hammer to 3-3 which would have given him a chance in the decider and perhaps got him through to the finals. However an 80 finish from the Hammer left Hylton on 40 and clinched the game for the Hammer putting mark out. The Hammer went on to beat Barry Yeomans in the final to take the £600 first prize. Yeomans received £300 runners up prize with Mark and the other semi finalist each getting £75. The last 8 each received £40.

In all there were 144 competitors as well as many spectators packing Enots. Among the spectators, were, I believe, the Darts Babes, so no doubt there will be a report on the days events on their web-site as well. (Darts Babes On Tour Link)
