Round The Boards (2 November 2009)

Several players have questioned why I only do match reports about my own team. As I pointed out to them it is difficult to write about other matches if I don’t see them. So Billy Evans, the Captain of the Prince of Wales team suggested that if other Captains send in some notes about their matches I could then do a round up of the weeks matches. He said that he would bring the idea up at a league meeting, but one or two teams have already put some comments about their matches for this week on the Guest Book.

The first report from one of the players at the Vaults obviously had Neil Hutchings advert for his dog walking business in mind when he wrote it;-

Yes it was a ruff night at the vaults, after we had taken an early lead as well, but fair play to the Red Lion they fought back like terriers, but a disappointing match by both sides! On a brighter note Steve Culley won the card and Neil Hutchings won best of breed!!!

The second concerns the Moderation’s match against the Prince of Wales "B" team. Incidentally, their Captain Glynn Bugler, has started to E-Mail me a copy of his teams result sheet each week to make sure I get it early.

Good night at the Prince of Wales, with close games right through. A couple of big finishes from Gorge Hylton (141) and Kenny Robinson (154) sealing the win for the Moderation. Looking forward to the Red Lion next week (no tea for me). Maybe a Hylton derby again?

According to Glynn's E-Mail two players from the Prince of Wales "B" team also hit two good starts. S Durant had a 113 break and D Marshall hit start of 112.

When I collected the results this afternoon, Graham told me about Steve Johnson's performance against the Power Station. Although Steve lost his Captains game 2 - 1, he could have finished the one leg in 7 darts as he was on double 8 in 6 darts after a 160 start. However he missed it and ended upon double 2 which he couldn't hit, eventually going on to lose that leg. The next leg was even worse for Steve as he got the BRUSH.

As regards my own match of the Prince Of Wales “A” V Libbys, I have to admit that I didn’t really see much of it as I was drifting away in a little world of my own. Some people might unkindly say that I was away with the fairies!
However, all the players made sure that I knew about Captain Billy’s TWO scores of 180 that he hit. Not to be out done, his opponent, Roscoe, hit 180 too. (Only one 180 that is!)  The final result was a disappointing, (For the P.O.W.) 5 – 3 win for Libbys.

Other match results were pretty much as you might expect except for the 4 –4 draw at the Plough V Plough Wanderers where another one of the ladies was showing her form again this week in the shape of Marg Giles who hit a splendid break of 116 and score of 140.

Finally just a quick mention for G Wood of the Plough "A" who hit a great start of 144 and a superb 9 darter last week on a late result sheet.
