Match
Report Libbys Against The Britannia.
On
Monday the 17th September Libbys played the Britannia which is of
course the old pub name for the restaurant that has been called Kellys for quite
a few years now. The bar has been re-instated, as has a dart board of course,
with an imported team from the Chase who left their pub after alterations. After
looking at last weeks results when the Brit lost 6-1 to the Plough “A,”
Libbys felt confident about the nights forthcoming match, but as always darts is
unpredictable. I am sure Will Hall would say that Libbys were missing his
skills, but Paul Williams, aka “Roscoe,” is a good replacement. He had a
splendid 152 start in his match last week and did it again against the Brit, then
he followed this magnificent start with 89 and a tidy 60 to make an 8 dart
finish. Graham Thacker also had a splendid leg where he narrowly missed an
opportunity for a possible 7 scoring darts. He broke with 100, followed by 140 and left 61. He did
not think to go 25, 36 and instead went his own way finishing next throw.
After
the singles Libbys were 3-2 up and feeling confident with Roscoe and John
Gartshore on first in the doubles to put up the gate. I don’t think the Brits
pair had played in the singles, but they had some very good and consistent darts
that put a lot of pressure on the Libbys pair. Roscoe did not perform as well as
he might and Gartshore did not help much which gave the Britannia pair the chance
they needed to take the game. This made the score 3-3 with an un-played pair
from the Brit against Libbys un-played pair of Glyn Bugler and Alan Hartley.
The
Brit broke first, but a 160 start from Alan caught them up and made a close leg
which Libbys took. After a quick start of 63 from Alan and the odd 100 from Glyn,
Alan went for a 119 finish to clinch the match. The 57 went in followed by an
unorthodox treble 10 leaving 32. A poor last dart from Alan left Glyn an easy shot at 32 which
he missed and Alan slipped it in next throw to give Libbys the result they
expected, but had to fight every step of the way to win.
