Putting The Ladies Right!

A couple of days ago Steve Culley of the Globe sent me an E-mail pointing out that M Giles of the Plough Wanderers, who hit a splendid 140 finish the other week when they played the Globe, was in fact Marge Giles and her achievement should be listed under the Ladies listing on the League Tables page. I was just about to correct it when a thought sneaked into my head that K Morgan might in fact be Kaz Morgan, also of the Plough Wanderers. I can only apologise to Kaz for not realising this earlier, but have to say in my defence, that, as some of you may know, my mind does not perform very well sometimes, the same as my darts, and I do forget names. Steve obviously put me right and I corrected the listing by putting Kaz’s 146 start in the ladies listing.

When I looked at the fixtures for this week, we, the Prince Of Wales team, were as you would expect, going to play the Plough Wanderers. Billy, the Captain put me on first and of course I played Kaz Morgan! Now admittedly I had a good first leg which I won, but Kaz could easily have taken the second as she was playing well and was unfortunate not to do so. If she had it might have changed the whole nights darts putting my team on the wrong foot. Another one of the Plough Ladies that played well, taking a scalp in the process, was D Davies who beat Aid Barry, although he had some good darts.

Several of the games could have gone in the Plough’s favour and one that did was my doubles with Geof Taylor. We took a scrappy first leg and when on double 18 to finish in the second, with the Plough pairing still not started and on a double to break, I turned to the landlady and said. “I have seen two doubles games lost before now when one pair has been on a brush and the other pair on double one.” Of course we ended up in the “Madhouse,” where I have been many times before, and we lost that leg. After losing the next leg with some more appalling darts from me, the Plough had a chance of going for the draw on the last doubles pairing and were unlucky not to get it making the final score 5-3.

While the match was going on the TV was showing the Grand Slam Of Darts In Wolverhampton and the beautiful Ladies World Number One, Anastasia Dobromyslova was one of those playing. Naturally all the lads were more interested in watching her against Kevin McDine and not really interested in our match. They started discussing her games and the fact that she bottled out on the doubles against John Part in the first round, when she could have easily beaten him. Someone said she hasn’t got the balls to play in men’s darts. Another voice piped up pointing out how she came back from 4 – 0 down to make it 4 – 4 against Wayne Mardle and said she, “Has got balls.”

Thinking about the controversy that used to surround the Russian Shot Putters in the Olympics from years ago, before drug testing, I added, “She definitely hasn’t got balls, just look at her she’s gorgeous!”
