Success Of The New Web Site
The
Web-site for the Rugeley And District Monday Night Mens Darts League has been
running for just about one year now since it was set up before Xmas in the
Winter of 2005/06 and is rapidly gaining a faithful following. One person
E-mails me regularly to tell me that the league table does not seem right, so he
must be looking at the web-site. The Hit Counter registers about 10 hits each
day, many of which are not repeats, so it is not just the unmentionable one
looking at the league table, others must be looking as well. (If you click on
the "view site stats" box on the counter
you will be taken to another site called "Bravenet" that keeps the
counter records and breaks down the hit statistics free of charge. The counter
has passed the 2100 mark this week and they are all genuine hits, not like on
some sites that inflate the numbers to make them look good!
If you have explored the darts web-site you will have realised that it is meant to be fun with a few poems and lots of jokes that are added to whenever anybody sends me them. Incidentally regular patrons will have noticed that I have split the jokes into Clean and Rude because it occurred to me that our web-site, because of the nature of its address, is not classified by the internet explorer security control. Also on the site are of course all the fixtures and league tables as they become available throughout the season, rules, blank result sheet, list of pubs addresses and phone numbers where advised, web links etc. The News Page is at last starting to grow as I am devoting a little more time to this site now I am not running the Wednesday Weston League. Some articles are a little more serious than others, but hopefully will all be of interest to our members.
After
over 3 years running the Weston league web-site I am still finding out new
things that can be done with the web-pages and a recent experiment resulted in a
6 minute fun cartoon that I made, being placed on the clean jokes page and made
available to download. Your nine year old kids will appreciate this one as well!
It was the intention to generate some kind of revenue from the site for the league from adverts, especially on the links page, but sadly everybody seems to want a reciprocal advertising link to their site which then has a link promoting ours. This is of course all done without any fees. If you look at the league tables page, every 40 seconds a page of adverts appears on the screen before reverting to the tables again. This was another attempt to sell advertising but was only ever done on a trial basis.
The letters page has been a waste of time because there have been so few e-mails, but it will remain there in case any of you suddenly sober up enough to send me something interesting! It is your site so please tell me what to do with it (Politely!)
