Bottisham
0-6 Royston Town Colts SAT 16 SEP 2006 10:00
Battling Under Pressure
Bottisham U11 girls battled hard today against sustained pressure
from an experienced Royston side. Their determination and perseverence
limited Royston to 6 goals, which was a great performance, as
many of the girls were playing their first competitive league
match. Bottisham were well organised and defended well, particularly
against corner kicks. Hannah was confident keeping goal, coming
out to narrowing the angle on number of occasions and forcing
shots wide. Rebecca and Anne-Marie stuck at their task well, undeterred
by a lot of shouting from the assistant coach! Phebe ran tirelessly
in a defensive midfield role, tackling consistently well and covering
a large area of the pitch. Charlotte showed flexibility and committment
in switching successfully to a defensive role for the second half.
Mima ran well on the ball and linked up well with Marie who showed
great enthusiasm and movement off the ball, always available for
goal kicks. With no substitutes all the girls did really well
to keep going right up to the final whistle even in their first
game of the season. Well done all of you and well played Royston.
Giirl of the Match - Phebe.

0-0 Haverhill Rovers Girls SAT 07 OCT 2006 10:00
So close to a win!
A superb well organised performance from Bottisham U11 girls.
Great performances from our two new signings, Jenny making a very
strong contribution in defence and Emily excelling in the second
half with numerous surging runs into the oppositions box, very
unlucky not to score. Overall the team was very well disciplined,
sticking to their tasks with good movement and positioning off
the ball. Charlotte made her presence felt up front in the first
half with good support from Emily and Marie. Maddie took the role
of last defender making the final challenge count on many occasions.
Hannah, although not tested on many occasions was there when it
mattered tipping one shot around the post at full stretch. Phebe
covered the ground with her usual commitment making a good contribution
to the strong defensive performance. Mima, Rebecca and Anne-Marie
all made good contributions in the middle of the field with good
tackling and link up play. All in all a great performance and
unlucky not to come away with all three points.

A great away win!
great team performance giving us our first win of the season.
We continue to build on the foundation of our well organised defence,
managing our second clean sheet in a row. Charlotte emerged from
a goal-mouth melee in the first half, managing to find the back
of the net and giving us a slender one goal advantage. From then
on it was a well balanced game, both teams having their share
of the ball and threatening the opposition's goal. A couple of
great saves from Hannah maintained our lead, whilst continued
forward runs from Emily, Charlotte and Marie kept the pressure
off our defence. Jenny was a solid presence at the back, seeing
off numerous attacks with good support from Maddie, Rebecca and
Anne-Marie. Phebe covered a lot of ground, playing a slightly
more defensive role than usual, with Mima having a number of good
runs from midfield. We ran our luck a couple of times in the second
half, but continued to be well organised and played positive football.
A great all round performance and a very welcome first win, against
strong opposition. Well done everyone.

Burwell Swallows Girls 1-1 Bottisham SAT 11 NOV 2006 11:15
A Great Recovery
Burwell Swallows started the most competitively in what turned
out to be a very entertaining match. Bottisham started very much
on the back foot, not showing the same hunger for the ball as
they have in recent matches. As a result they allowed Burwell
to come onto them and dominate possession for much of the first
half. Burwell were constantly threatening and in spite of an inspirational
captain's performance from Jenny in the centre of the Bottisham
defence the almost inevitable goal was eventually conceded. Bottisham
continued to battle, working hard to contain the Swallows in defence,
but rarely venturing forward with attacks of their own. Good defensive
work from Jenny, Maddie, Anne-Marie, Phebe and Mima and Hannah
in goal kept the score at 1-0 and the game within reach. Following
a team discussion at half-time the girls came out with a renewed
enthusiasm and sense of purpose. They started to fight much harder
for possession, chasing every loose ball and gradually growing
in confidence as the half progressed. As a result of this extra
effort, less of the play was deep in our own half and Emily, Charlotte,
Marie and Phebe started to create more and more opportunities
going forward. The goal finally came with a characteristically
powerful run down the right by Emily, who managed to get in a
beautiful cross to Charlotte, who controlled it and finished in
style. Shortly afterwards Marie came close, shooting just wide
after a solo run down the left. Burwell still threatened on the
counter attack, but Jenny pushed up to keep the momentum going
forward and Maddie played a faultless second half as the last
defender, always clearing with confidence. In spite of creating
a number of further chances and forcing a number of corners the
deciding goal was just out of reach resulting in a well deserved
draw.

Bottisham
0-2 Fulbourn Institute SAT 25 NOV 2006 10:00
The end of the unbeaten run...
A good solid performance from Bottisham U11 girls. They were
well organised and defended well, but in the end were beaten by
a team with a slightly better cutting edge going forward, the
difference amounting to only a single goal in each half. Even
so, Bottisham were unfortunate not to get on the score sheet.
The first goal came early in the first half on one of the few
occasions that Fulbourne got behind our defence. The opportunity
was capitalised on with a beautiful finish. Shortly afterwards,
at the other end, Emily combined with Charlotte who hit the crossbar
from close range. Further scoring opportunities were scarce at
either end, with most of Bottisham's attacks over-running the
pitch in the strong wind. In the second half, Fulbourne came out
strongest, maintaining sustained pressure in the Bottisham half,
but failing to increase their lead thanks to an number of good
saves by Hannah, good defending from Maddie, Jenny, Rebecca and
Anne Marie and some timely interventions by Phebe. As the half
progressed Bottisham gradually committed more players forward,
Marie, Mima, Charlotte, Emily and Phebe all battling well, but
Bottisham were eventually hit on the break by Fulbourne who beat
the last defender and again finished confidently. Bottisham continued
to push forward winning a number of corners, probably the best
scoring chance being a break from midfield by Phebe who ended
up one on one with the keeper who challenged well, conceding a
corner. An exciting game played in with a good spirit by both
teams.

Fulbourn Institute 2-2 Bottisham SAT 02 DEC 2006 10:00
An Excellent start!
The girls came to Fulbourn thinking they would loose following
their defeat at their hands last week. But this was soon put behind
them when early in the first half Jenny passed an excellent ball
to Emily who crossed to Charlotte who in turn passed to Marie
who tapped it past the keeper giving her her first goal of the
season. It wasn't long before Fulbourn were on the attack with
very strong defending by Maddie and Anne-Marie, but persistant
attacking soon paid off for Fulbourn. In the second half Fulbourn
came on strong with prolonged attacks on the Bottisham goal, which
eventually got the better of Rebecca and Maddie putting them in
the lead, but the girls did not give up, soon on the attack Emily
ran up the outside crossed to Charlotte who controlled the ball
and put it into the net. Fulbourn were soon back on the attack
but Maddie Anne-Marie and Hannah were an excellent match, with
Hannah making some amazing saves. Altogether a very exciting match
with all the girls playing with enthusiasm.

Bottisham 2-0 Balsham Colts SAT 13 JAN 2007 10:00
Spirit and Commitment
An
exciting match with some end to end football and plenty of attacks
and counter attacks in spite of a strong wind. Bottisham and Balsham
both played with great spirit and commitment throughout. The first
half saw Bottisham attacking into the wind, with Balsham defending
strongly and making some good chances on the counter attack. Bottisham
worked hard against the wind, with Charlotte, Emily and Marie,
with support from Anne-Marie, pushing forward into the box on
many occasions, but failing to penetrate Balsham's defence. One
clear break by Emily was defended bravely by the advancing Balsham
keeper. In the second half Bottisham had the wind behind them
and were able to create more sustained pressure up front, forcing
a number of corners, with Emily, Marie, Mima and Charlotte keeping
the pressure on, but it was the introduction of Jenny in midfield
that made the difference and then, it was only a matter of time
before the ball was scrambled home by Emily. Balsham continued
to threaten on the counter attack and produced a couple of their
best chances in the final quarter of the game, but good defending
from Rebecca, Maddie, Jenny and Hannah proved enough to keep them
out on the day. Impressive running and commitment from Jenny in
midfield helped to keep the pressure on at the Balsham end where
Emily missed out on a second thanks to a brilliant save by the
Balsham keeper and then again, thanks to a deflection. Finally
Charlotte scrambled home a second to make the game safe.
Girl of the Match: Jenny.

Bottisham 1-3 Bishop Stortford Community SAT 24 FEB 2007 10:00
Finally, another game!
First match for Bottisham after quite a long layoff. The girls
started very well, battling and focused. Jess settled well in
her first match and there was some confident defending and passing
of the ball. After the first quarter Charlotte took a turn in
goal to give Hannah the treat of a run out up front. Shortly after
this change Emily received the ball from a throw in, cut across
the field into space and took an early shot, putting Bottisham
ahead. Solid defending continued from Jenny, Rebecca and Phebe,
with Jess out of action after being winded. Emily, Marie and Hannah
continued to push forward, but half time found us just one goal
ahead. Stortford began the second half like a different team,
pushing forward in numbers, right from the start. They were immediately
rewarded after Hannah made a great one handed stop, but the hungry
blues were first to the rebound and buried it. The second half
continued with Stortford playing with much more confidence, their
awareness and passing causing Bottisham problems at the back.
Bottisham continued to battle, but they were always on the back
foot, with just the occasional break by Emily and Charlotte to
ease the pressure. Marie, Mima and Phebe contined to battle in
midfield, with Jess, Rebecca and Jenny all chasing balls down
valiantly in defence, but eventually Stortford scrambled the ball
home for a second. The third goal, that put the game out of Bottisham's
reach was an unstoppable curving strike into the top corner from
distance. Bottisham continued to push forward, but chances were
few and far between and in the end Stortford deserved the three
points. Girl of the Match: Phebe.
