We
started training in July, not a great turn out for the first session
7/8 lads only. straight away I could see this was going to be
a testing season for the boys and myself, due to the lack of numbers
after losing several boys from last season. We advertised and
put posters up ,eventually we got enough players registered for
Colts football. We had a pre-season 7-a-side tournament at Linton
where we got into the final narrowly losing to the hosts 3-1.Good
play from Liam Callen, Michael Ward, Levi Simon.
Our first 11 aside was a friendly versus Milton losing 4-1 no
subs. Good game Josh Lemmon.
Sept our first game was against Waterbeach no subs again
losing 4-1. Good game Liam Callen. Our only other game in Sept
was St Ives winning 10-4. Goals: Callen Fogarty 4 Levi Simon 3,
1 apiece Michael Ward, Chris Jones. Good game Callen Fogarty,
Levi Simon.
Oct was a tough month losing against Priory in a League
cup 6-1 and three defeats (4-2)(3-1)(2-0) Good month for David
Hall ,Callen Fogarty and Chris Jones.
Nov 5th we had our 2nd win beating Soham 2-1 , but the
sparkle went out with two very hard games against the eventual
top teams in our league Histon and Priory. Good month for David
Hall, Michael Ward, Levi Simon.
Dec left us feeling the winter blues with defeats in KO
cup after being 3-0 up at half time losing 6-3. Again 2-0 up at
half time against Chatteris Town in league and losing 3-2 and
one more defeat at Cherry Hinton left us feeling a bit deflated
going in to the christmas break. Still a good month for Levi and
Michael never giving up. Jan we only had 2 games ,with
the dark evenings training was inside the sports hall which paid
off as we got a good win against Cherry Hinton, good game from
Levi, Liam and Michael. We had a good draw against Cottenham the
boys felt a lot better and this was the start of a much better
second half of the season.
Feb 3 games and only losing 2-1 to Ely in the last minute,
it was a good match for Chris Jones, goals Levi and Callen. But
our best win of the season was against Witchford - we were down
2-0 but won 3-2. Goals Michael, Callen, Levi great all round game
by all the team.
March
we only played one game, again being 3-0 up at half time then
losing 4-3 against Chatteris Town ,we had strong wind on that
day which made it hard for the boys. Goals Levi 2, Michael 1,
good game Levi. We then had 5-6 weeks without any games around
the easter holidays, too many easter eggs laid heavy with some
of the lads which gave the lads their heaviest defeat of the season
12-0 which gave Histon the league title.
Our last game of the season was against Ely and some of the lads
had already put there boots away, losing 6-1. goal Levi Good game
Levi and Jonathon Singer.
22 goals by Levi Simon, 10 goals Michael Ward, Chris Jones got
1 and Callen Fogarty scored 12. We are already planning for next
season with additions to the coaching set up and with more support
from the parents we hope to have a much brighter and prosperous
season. I would like to thank our team sponser Neil woodward of
Ravenward development for our new kit. Also a big thank you to
Chris Lemmon for refereeing all our home games this season.
