Bottisham
7- 1 Burwell Tigers
Cold, damp conditions produced a greasy playing surface that
gave both teams trouble during this game, but Bottisham began
brightly, keeping Burwell in their own half for much of the
opening ten minutes. Just one scoring chance, though, when Paul
pushed a ball through the defence for Jamie to run onto. Their
No.11 did well to clear the danger. After ten minutes Burwell
won a corner which seemed to inspire confidence in the visitors.
Less than two minutes later the Tigers scored. On twenty minutes
Alex Breeze sent a great pass down the line to Mike, whose strength
took it past the defenders. His fast, low cross was converted
by Jamie to bring the scores to one apiece. Four minutes later
the visitors had a goal disallowed for offside - a close call.
Undaunted, their No.8 hit a great strike. We were relieved to
see it go just high and wide of the top right corner. In the
last minutes of the half Mike sent Shane clear on goal with
only the 'keeper to beat. Shane executed an exquisite lob to
collect his first goal for Bottisham - against his old club.
After the restart Wes chased a seemingly lost cause, got to
the ball first and rounded the keeper. Their defender did enough
to see his shot hit the side-netting. We were treated to a steady
stream of goals in the second half as the team passed the ball
around and made the Tigers chase the game. A low, angled shot
from the left gave Jamie his second and he collected his hat-trick
five minutes later when he beat the offside trap to run it past
the 'keeper. His fourth was a case of right place at the right
time, after Tom Jones surged through on the right and hit the
post. Jamie picked up the rebound to bring the score to 5-1.
A couple of great crosses from Wes followed, the second one
eventually yielding a goal from Jamie after the ball had rattled
around the penalty area. Mike was having an outstanding game,
getting the better of their No.14 on the wing before seeing
his shot run wide. Good to see Tom Jones racing back to help
the defence out with only ten minutes to go. The whole team
were playing well as a team, chasing every ball and putting
together some nice passes. With seven minutes to go the Tigers
had another chance at goal but narrowly missed. Then followed
two almost identical attacks from Bottisham. A 'route one' ball
went over the defence, Shane ran onto it but their 'keeper made
a great point blank save. In the last move of the game the attack
was repeated, this time Shane lobbed the goalie to bring the
final score to 7-1

Bottisham
8- 3 St Ives Rangers C
Despite the blustery, rainy conditions there was a great turnout
of spectators today, some travelling from as far as Kent. The
entire defence were guilty of a series of errors in the early
minutes of the match which resulted in a goal for the visitors
who must have thought it was their lucky day. This proved not
to be the case as Bottisham pulled themseves together and began
to dominate the game. Few chances fell for either team until
Mike outran a defender to a one-on-one situation with the 'keeper
in the fifteenth minute. He made no mistake and brought the
game level again. Bottisham steadily increased the pressure,
Jamie pulling his shot wide five minutes later. On 22 minutes
Mike's left wing throw-in found Wes who sent Shane on his way
for his first goal of the game. 2-1 to Bottisham. Three minutes
later Mike popped up at the right corner post and delivered
a great cross. Jamie slid in and converted with a stunning volley
that complimented the quality of the cross perfectly. 3-1. Bottisham
were attacking continually now, but lacking support from midfeld
at times. A left wing cross from Wes was put in the net by Tom.
4-1. The traffic wasn't all one way, however, and our defence
was tested several times. After a quiet start, Sam was making
his presence felt, Paul was getting his head on tha ball well
and the two Alex's were stopping the Rangers from making their
runs down the wings.
The second half started well, with 'keeper Thomas in a forward
role, whipping in a cross. In contrast to the first half there
were plenty of runners from midfield to latch onto it, Tom driving
it into the goal for his second and Bottisham's fifth. Another
great cross from Thomas hung in the air and Hughes was unlucky
not to score from the header. The Rangers always threatened
on the break, however, and Sam had to really stretch his legs
to see off one attack that threatened. A 'keeper error gifted
Mike his second goal of the game midway through the half and
the score became 7-1 when Shane got his second. A great run
from Joe out of defence led to the eighth goal for Bottisham
and Shane's hattrick, a low drive that went out of the 'keeper's
reach. At 8-1 both teams knew the game was all but over and
Bottisham relaxed a bit too much, allowing the Rangers through
to collect two consolation goals before the final whistle.

Swavesey Spartans 1-3 Bottisham
Bottisham began well, pinning Swavesey back in their own
half for a sustained period. It looked like we would get an
early lead with all the pressure the team were applying, but
after 5 minutes the ball was cleared long and the Spartans counterattack
was swift and very nearly decisive - their No7 sped through
our defence as if it wasn't there but his shot went wide. The
home team began to enjoy time in Bottisham's half, Tom's powerful
header equal to a good direct shot on our goal. Bottisham began
to get more attacks on goal, Wes getting stuck in and winning
possession and Jamie's shot going just wide after a on-on-one
with their 'keeper. Jamie was the provider minutes later with
a great flick on that sent Shane goalwards. A shot to the bottom
right corner was unstoppable and gave Bottisham a 1-0 lead.
It could have been two when Shane out-muscled a defender but
the 'keeper did well to block the shot. The second goal came
in the twenty-fourth minute - Paul's goalkick was picked up
by Mike, who pushed the ball through to Jamie whose clinical
finish made it 2-0. The Spartans took full advantage of a rare
defensive slip from Sam to bring the score back to 2-1 just
before half time. The Spartans had shown us what they could
do given half a chance, they had very nippy forwards and used
the long ball well on a short pitch.
The second half started with Swavesey breaking fast, but Bottisham
were defending well and out quickly putting the pressure back
on the home team. After sixteen minutes, Shane got his second
assisted by Thomas and putting some clear space between the
teams. A minute later it could have been 4-1 as Shane dribbled
through the defence but elected to shoot rather than square
the ball to three waiting Bottisham players. Shout louder next
time lads! The wind was whipping across the pitch and the play
was almost entirely on Bottisham's right wing for long periods.
In the final minutes of the game Sam and Alex Breeze were kept
busy on the right side as Swavesey kept pushing. Jamie and Hughes
linked well on the left with a series of neat one-two's but
the game was all but over by then and Bottisham were unable
to take advantage of the space on the left.

Bottisham 3 - 0 Warboys Colts
Warboys Colts arrived with only ten players today due to
injuries and understandably played a defensive game. This could
have been a great opportunity for the team to learn how to play
against opposition with this strategy but unfortunately the
team didn't take this chance. Our lads spent a great deal of
time in their half but only seemed to have two ideas today:
speculative long range efforts or dribbling through the entire
team to score. Having said that, Bottisham 's first goal came
from captain Mike Dennis, who hit the ball sweetly from well
outside the penalty area to give the home team a 1-0 lead after
10 minutes. Warboys had their first attack on 12 minutes, after
clearing a cross that bobbled across the goal-line. Their second
foray into our half was on 27 minutes, Joe seeing off the danger
comfortably.
The second half started well for the home team, within two minutes
Jamie had doubled Bottisham's lead after latching on to a through
ball and sending it past the 'keeper. Barely two minutes later
Thomas tickled the ball past the left side defence before launching
an excellent cross. Tom Jones arrived in the six yard box to
put the ball away to bring the score to 3-0. It was 19 minutes
before Warboys broke into our half, Alex Breeze and Sam having
little to do defensively but doing their job well when called
upon. Our 'keeper was a spectator for most of the match, with
no real saves to make. Bottisham sensed it was a one sided match
but failed to capitalise on it. When they did use the width
that the pitch has to offer, it eased the congestion in the
attacking half and made more space for everyone, but unfortuantely
this was too infrequent. One bright spot was Thomas Burns domination
of the right wing. Credit must go to Warboys, who played for
60 minutes with ten lads and frustrated the home side with their
valiant defending. Their 'keeper made a number of good saves
to keep Warboys in with a chance. We look forward to the return
match against a hopefully full squad in the New Year.

Burwell Tigers 1 - 9 Bottisham
Bottisham began well, probing and testing the Burwell's
defensive line. Tom Jones' header put our forwards through on
goal after five minutes and Jamie scored from an extremely tight
angle to give us the lead. The Tigers were given few clear chances,
our defence growing more confident with every game and seeing
off the danger comfortably. The host teams first opportunity
came in the eighteenth minute when the ball was crossed beautifully
but just out of range for the Tigers striker. Bottisham immediately
responded, a desperate tackle from their No 7 denying Jamie
his second goal. Four minutes later, Jamie picked up the ball
and calmly slotted the ball underneath the outstretched 'keepers
body. 2-0. More pressure from the boys forced a corner which
Mike dropped into the six yard box, Sean R-J sweeping the ball
into the net. The half ended at 3-0 to the visitors, who had
impressed the watching parents with the quality of crosses and
flick-ons.
The second half started with the home team playing the better
football, a let-off for the boys as the ball ran across their
goal in the third minute. Perhaps that was a defining moment,
a two goal margin being recoverable, but it wasn't the Tigers
day. In the seventh minute, Mike sent Thomas Burns on his way,
who took his chance well. 4-0. The next goal came from the left,
as Wesley Smith burst through. His shot hit the underside of
the crossbar and Thomas headed the ball home at close range
for his second and Bottisham's fifth. The flurry of goals continued
with Burwell Tigers pulling one back in the tenth minute. Shane
Carter-Braine got his first goal of the game a minute later
after being 'rolled on'. He took it clinically, having time
to choose his spot. 6-1 to the visitors. Halfway through the
second half Tom Jones executed a great headed flick on from
our goal kick, giving Sean the chance to run onto it and score
his second. 7-1. With five minutes remaining Hughes, who was
having a great game, pushed the ball on to Shane who lofted
the ball over the 'keeper for his second goal. He got his hat-trick
after some great work from Tom Jones - dribbling through the
defence before setting up Shane, who hit the ball sweetly with
the outside of his right boot to make the final score 9-1.
