8's Div 8A : Bottisham 0-13 ETS Strikers
A
slow start for Bottisham in the first quarter. After ETS's first
few goals Bottisham seemed to lack confidence and most of the players
were obviously late in bed on the Friday night! A brilliant save
from a penalty by Ben was the highlight of the second quarter. A
hard match against a very strong opposition. Bottisham tried to
fight back with a few unsuccessful breaks for goal but ETS's defence
held strong. ETS's domination of the game was upheld due to their
continual use of the long ball down the middle of the pitch and
their superior passing, with their team tactics allowing one player
to constantly remain inside Bottisham's half. Bottisham again showed
their lack of experience by bunching and not passing the ball out.
A well deserved Man of the Match for Eddie. A disappointing Birthday
treat for Nifty!

8's Div 8A : Bottisham 6-3 Fulbourn Falcons 'B'
First
Quarter Connor (in Goal), Eddie, Josiah, Michael and Sam
Fulbourn took the kick-off, with Bottisham playing towards
the changing rooms. Bottisham made an excellent start, with Sam
kicking for goal twice in the first three minutes. Play was in Fulbourn's
half most of the time. The first goal came from Josiah from a throw
in just inside the Bottisham half. Soon after an unsuccessful shot
at goal came from Sam. Then came a brilliant run by Michael, before
being fouled just outside the goal area - advantage was played.
A second goal then for Josiah, helped out by Michael. Sam scored
the next goal, which came from very near the half way line. Slack
defending then allowed Fulbourn to quickly pull one back straight
afterwards. A very pleasing and confident performance by all.
Second Quarter Josh (in Goal), Brad, Dan, Ben and Jack
Some good defending by Ben and Brad in the first few minutes
and a couple of excellent saves by Josh. Fulbourn were putting on
more pressure this quarter, with Bottisham having to concentrate
on defence. Fulbourn scored from a penalty after a hand ball by
Ben, bringing the score to 3-2, with much entertaining shirt waving
celebrations from Fulbourn. Brad then took a corner that took a
heavy deflection off the Falcons' keeper for an own goal (4-2).
Another one from Fulbourn came soon after. Josiah replaced Daniel
with about five minutes to go, who then stormed through the opposition
and banged in another one to secure his hat-trick. Some excellent
work from Jack in this quarter, who had a great shot at goal but
was unlucky.
Third Quarter Connor (in Goal), Dan, Eddie, Michael and
Sam
Another good quarter from Bottisham. Sam ran the ball through, Eddie
picked it up and went on to score (6-3). A clearance by Sam then
put the ball in the top of a hedge. The ref (Chris Lemmon) then
had to bring in a taller parent, Connor's dad (slightly more endowed
in the height department). Then came an excellent save from Connor
and an unlucky shot for goal from Dan. Fulbourn were upping the
pressure, with two shots at goal, one well saved by Connor, the
other over the top. Bottisham were holding strong.
Fourth Quarter Ben (in Goal), Brad, Jack, Josh and Josiah
Some good attacking by Jack, playing 2 on 1 for some time.
Most play was in Bottisham's half. Bottisham did well to keep the
score at 6-3. A much improved game for Bottisham, though the teams
this week seemed much better matched. All children and parents went
home full of the joys of Spring! A very well deserved Man of the
Match for Josiah.

8's Div 8A : Fulbourn Falcons 'A' 12-0 Bottisham
First
Quarter Connor (in Goal), Ed, Josiah, Josh and Michael
– Josiah taking goal kicks
A very quick goal from Fulbourn in the first few minutes, proving
Fulbourn meant business. A couple of long balls from Josiah (taking
goal kicks) took play into Fulbourn’s half briefly, before Fulbourn
had another shot at goal – excellent save by Connor. A good clearance
by Josh from a Fulbourn corner. More superb saves by Connor and
very good defending from Josh and Josiah as Fulbourn seemed to move
up another gear, resulting in first-class goal from Fulbourn. (2-0)
Fulbourn’s next goal came from a outstanding header. Bottisham were
under constant pressure and another goal sneaked in soon afterwards
(4-0). Michael deflected the next shot and Connor saved the following
one. Both Josiah and Ed then had runs with the ball. Josiah had
an admirable shot. A free kick to Fulbourn then was well saved and
held by Connor to keep the score at 4-0.
Second Quarter Ben (in Goal), Brad, Dan, Jack and
Sam – Sam taking goal kicks
Some good defending, with a good heading clearance from Sam,
who then had a good run and two unsuccessful shots at goal.. Some
commendable defending by Dan and an excellent clearance from Brad,
with a header. Dan came off – Ed on. Good tackles by Jack, before
Fulbourn were on full power again and scored from a brilliantly
taken corner. (5-0). A powerful kick at goal from Brad – just wide.
Ben making good saves, until a spell of slack defence allowed another
one in. With a quick break from Ed this quarter ended 6-0.
Third Quarter Connor (in Goal), Ed, Josh, Josiah
and Michael – Josiah taking goal kicks
Some outstanding defending by Michael, allowing Josiah a quick
run. Michael was then brought down but play continued. Another goal
from Fulbourn came after a great save from Connor. Some first class
defending by all the Bott backs. Pressure was constantly on from
Fulbourn, with another save from Connor and a determined run from
Josh. A head to eye collision for Josiah brought him down for a
couple of minutes – play continued, only to allow a unexpected goal
for Fulbourn to end this quarter 7-0.
Fourth Quarter Jack (in Goal), Ben, Brad, Dan and Sam
Two unlucky shots at goal from Brad. Fulbourn scored a cracking
goal from half way into the Bottisham half and another from a corner
shortly after. (9-0). A long shot from Sam hit the post. A free
kick for Fulbourn following a hand ball by Dan was then cleared
by Dan and again by Brad. A good save from Steve Flude ( looking
like a likely Connor replacement) behind goal then followed. Some
more sound defending by Bottisham this quarter, to leave the final
score 12-0.
It must be said that the scoreline for this match does not fully
reflect the standard of play by Bottisham, who really do seem to
have “got it together” for the last couple of matches, commented
on by all watching parents.
Well done to Connor, Man of the Match, who excelled himself today
and made some fantastic saves.

8's Div 8A : Bottisham 2-12 Chesterton Eagles
First
Quarter Connor
(in Goal), Dan, Eddie, Michael and Sam
A very fast start from Chesterton, play straight into Bottisham’s
half.. Some good defending by Bottisham, then a couple of great
saves from Connor and a powerful head clearance from Sam. Pressure
from Chesterton was strong and a shot at goal hit post. A good stop
soon afterwards from Michael. Dan off, Josiah on. A Chesterton corner
was stopped well by Josiah. Dan back on, Josiah off. Connor then
made an excellent save, before an inevitable goal came from Chesterton
in the 7th minute. Chesterton then broke through Bottisham’s defence
again very quickly taking the score to 2-0 in the 8th minute. Eddie
then managed to keep possession and passed to Sam, who then had
a run into the Chesterton half, passed back to Ed, who was then
stopped by the Chesterton defence just outside the goal area. Chesterton
regained possession then and a shot at goal hit post. Sam then took
play into Chesterton’s half before the opposition came back strong
again and another goal went in soon after (3-0). Dan off, Josiah
on. Some good tackling by Josiah, producing a Chesterton corner,
which went straight to Connor. A quick run by Sam then followed.
Some first class tackles from Michael.
Second Quarter Dan (in Goal), Ben, Jack, Josh and Josiah
Chesterton’s fourth goal came in the first 12 seconds. Good defending
by Josiah. A Chesterton corner was well cleared by Ben. The fifth
goal came after 2 minutes, goal six at 2 mins 51 secs. Jack and
Ben off, Sam and Eddie on. An excellent run from Josiah, who slammed
the ball in the bottom left hand corner after 4 mins 28 secs (6-1).
Play then swiftly moved into Chesterton’s half briefly. Josiah passed
to Eddie, who had an unlucky shot at goal. A Bottisham corner was
then taken by Josiah. Bottisham’s confidence was then again shadowed
by Chesterton’s next goal after 10 mins play. Dan off, Connor on.
In the 12th minute the scoreline increased to 7-1. Josh off, Ben
on. A Bottisham corner taken by Josiah unfortunately landed behind
the goal. Sam took the next corner, before a quick run from Josiah,
taking us to the whistle.
Third Quarter Connor (in Goal), Jack, Josiah, Michael
and Sam
Two unlucky shots from Josiah started this quarter, as things started
to look a little more positive. A Chesterton corner was well deflected
and, taken again, well saved and held by Connor. Another shot Connor
saved yet again. A Bottisham corner was then taken by Josiah and
was confidently stuck into the back of the net by Michael . (8-2)
Sam then had a run with the ball and an unlucky shot at goal. Some
good defending then by Bottisham, with a good head clearance from
Josiah.
Fourth Quarter Connor (in Goal), Ben, Dan, Eddie and Josh
Two good saves from Connor after a very fast start from Chesterton,
who broke through tbe Bottisham defence to score their 9th (9-2).
A free kick then to Bottisham after a bad tackle on Dan. Some admirable
saves made by Connor as he was put under constant pressure, before
Chesterton’s next goal went in after 4 mins 42 secs. A free kick
was then awarded to Bottisham, taken by Eddie. Chesterton then had
yet another strike at goal, which Connor did get his hand to but
could not hold. (11-2). Josh off, Josiah on. A lightning goal from
Chesterton in the 6th minute closed the scoring at 12-2.
Well done to Michael, his first goal for Bottisham Under 8’s and
I believe his first time for ‘Man of the Match’. A tough game for
Bottisham. Some good defending for much of the game, which could
not hold continually due to the constant pressure put on by Chesterton,
who used long passes down the pitch and kept one player back and
at least one player forward at all times.
