Match Reports

23rd September 2006
Bottisham 5-1 Burwell Tigers

Bottisham kicked off their home league matches with a good win against a Tiger's side that battled all the way in a well contested game played in excellent spirit. The first period saw Bottisham put a lot of pressure on the Tiger's goal and were finally rewarded with a great individual finish by their captain, Callum. However with seconds left the Tiger's grabbed an equaliser.
The second period saw Bottisham continue to pressurise but Tiger's goalkeeper was outstanding and brave and kept the scoreline the same. The third quarter saw Sean-Francis grab a brace of goals with one being a lovely diving cushioned header. The final period saw a clearance from Tiger's which fell to Ed on the half way line who picked his spot and drove the ball home. Sean-Francis then completed his hat-trick with the best goal of the match through excellent work between Callum, Harry T and himself.

Cottenham Utd 0-8
Bottisham
This was the first time these sides have met and Bottisham came away with a well deserved win in a very competitive game played in good spirit. At the start both teams seemed nervous and it took a while before they settled. Coming off the bench saw Luca inspire his players and scored the first two goals this was added to by the Bottisham Captain, Sean-Francis. After this a great effort by Cottenham was turned away by Bottisham's keeper, Hugh. The second period saw Bottisham put pressure on the Cottenham goal, but their goalkeeper made a string of great saves. Before an unfortunate own goal was followed by a goal scored by Harry T through perseverance. Sean-Francis scored two more to complete a hat-trick. The next period saw Cottenham try their hardest to get back into the game, but Bottisham through dogged defending by Alexander and good passing finally extended their lead when Man of the Match - Luca completed a well deserved hat trick. The final period saw chances missed at either end but no more goals were scored.

Bottisham
8-2 Isleham Utd
These two teams have not met before, but it was Bottisham who ran out winners. In the first period Bottisham took control and their skipper, Luca opened the scoring and this was added to by Harry 'diver' D. Isleham battled back but dogged defending by Harry T, Luke and Ed denied any clear chances. Next period saw Bottisham extend their lead from Callum 'Crouch' and was added to by Sean-Francis . However Isleham never gave up and scored a deserved goal. But straight from the kick off Callum scored a great long range effort. But the best was to come when great passing from Bottisham ended with a goal from Alexander's left foot! Luca scored again. But Isleham never stopped trying and scored another excellent goal. The match was finished by 'Diver' when scored his second. This was an entertaining match played in great spirit. Man of the Match was Alexander

Newmarket Town B 1-6 Bottisham
Coming at the end of half term week both teams seemed a bit sluggish, and it was Newmarket who sprang into life first scoring a good worked goal, and were unlucky not to extend their lead due to a couple of excellent saves from Hugh. Eventually Bottisham clicked through the efforts of Callum and resulted in Harry D levelling the score. The second period saw Bottisham take control thanks to a battling display by Man of the Match Ed Butler with goals from Sean-F, Harry D and Luca. But Newmarket never gave up and continued to press the Bottisham goal but a great defensive performance from Harry and skipper Alexander snuffed out any threat. The third period saw Harry D complete his hat-trick before he went in goal for the final part of the game. This brought the best goal of the match and sleek passing ended with a clinical finish from Hugh. With seconds remaining a corner taken to Ed F saw him strike an effort 10 yards out and was within a hair's breath of completing a fine performance by Bottisham.

Soham Town 0-10 Bottisham
With a strong biting wind blowing it took both teams some while to settle and it was Bottisham with the wind behind them who opened the scoring with a well worked goal finished by Luca. He then doubled his tally with an individual effort. Soham tried hard to break down Bottisham's defence but Luke and man of the match Edward F put pay to this. Sean-F grabbed a goal after good work from Alexander. The second period saw Bottisham have a blitz on the Soham goal, with goals from Harry D, Sean-F and Callum. But Soham never gave up and went close to scoring but for brave keeping by Hugh and defending from Harry T. Harry D scored his second after a string of passes, as did Sean-F. Harry D completed his hat-trick after skipper Edward B battled and won the ball to send him through. Both teams tried to play football in the final two periods and squandered chances but the wind was taking it's toll. However Bottisham through Callum finally made it ten. This was the first time these two sides have met and the game was well contested and played in great spirits.

Bottisham 7-1 Stretham Sporting
These teams have not met before and although the pitch was very wet, making it hard work, they both tried to play open entertaining football. Bottisham grabbed the lead through Luca and was added to by Sean-F and Harry D. Stretham never stopped trying and were denied through great defending by Edward F and goalkeeper, Hugh.. The second period saw Bottisham defend the wettest end of the pitch and scored again through Sean-F, before Stretham scored. But were stopped further goals by excellent defending from man-of-the-match Luke. The next period saw Callum F score after good teamwork from Harry T, Alexander and Edward B. The last period saw Sean-F complete a well deserved hat-trick before Callum scored his second in a well contested game played in good spirits.

Bottisham 3-2 Waterbeach
These teams have met a few times and as always it was a high standard of quality football played in good spirits. The first period was tight with Ed F and skipper Luke strong in defence and Hugh awesome in goal. Bottisham grabbed the initiative first when Sean-francis was fouled some 10 metres from goal and then duly scored direct from the freekick himself. Luca came close to carving out a second, before Waterbeach equalised through a long range effort. The second period again saw Bottisham take control through hard work from Ed B and Callum which was finished off by Man of the Match Harry D. But again Waterbeach equalised through another long shot.Bottisham put more pressure on their opponents goal through the excellent efforts of Harry T and Alexander M and from a corner Ed F scored directly. The remainder of the match saw efforts at both ends and it took great defending and goalkeeping from both sides to keep the score the same. A brilliant game.

Bottisham 6-2 Mildenhall
These teams have never met before and it was reflected in early exchanges as both teams seemed nervous. Bottisham were missing Alexander at a Judo competition and Hugh with a bad chesty cough. Also Luca and Sean-francis forgot their boots!!! so Luca borrowed a pair and Sean started in goal. It wasn't long before Bottisham settled into their normal pattern of playing entertaining football and missed a couple of clear chances. Mildenhall battled back and won a corner which was floated over and rebounded off Harry T into the goal. However this spurred HT onto having an excellent game all over the park with brilliant tackling and passing to earn him Man-of-the-match. The second period saw Bottisham up the tempo and Callum scored a lovely goal volleying in a corner at the near post. Sean-francis was then fouled outside the box and proceeded to drive the freekick home. Mildenhall didn't give up and equalised from long range which only beat skipper Harry D off the inside of the crossbar. The third period saw excellent defending from Luke and Ed B battled away in midfield which helped Callum score his second. Sean-francis cleverly realised the keeper was thinking of taking a goal kick when the ball was still live and netted for his second. This was then followed up by Callum for a well deserved hat trick. The final quarter saw Luca offer to go in goal after playing some sublime unselfish football. Ed F ran the defence like his idol John Terry; timing his challenges and making great passes up field, one of which found his skipper Harry 'Diver' D who finished off the scoring.

Bottisham 3-5 Cambridge Celts U9s
This friendly saw Bottisham lose their first game of the season to a well organised team from next age group up from ourselves. Conditions were cold and very wet, but this didn't stop both teams from playing entertaining football. The first period saw both sides nervous, Bottisham mainly due to the absence of Ed F with flu. Skipper Harry T set a great example for the rest of the team playing with a leg injury. Bottisham created plenty of chances but were thwarted by a superb Celt's keeper. However the same could be said of man-of-the-match Hugh who was excellent making a string of saves while getting frozen and the period finished goalless. The second saw more chances for Bottisham through battling efforts of Ed B with support from Luke and Luca. However against run of play the Celts nicked a goal. From the restart Bottisham tried to be too skilful and Celts pinched the ball and doubled their lead. However through great work from Alexander and Harry D was finished off by Callum. But again a mistake in defence restored Celts 2 goal advantage 1-3. The next period Bottisham put alot of pressure on the Celts goal mainly due to the efforts from Sean-francis who had a superb game and Bottisham deservedly scored through Callum. But once again the Celts gained the advantage when bottisham were caught napping and scored. They were denied another by Harry D who went into goal. The period finished 2-4. The last section again saw Bottisham create several chances and finally scored a well deserved goal from an effort on the wing from Harry D. Bottisham continued to attack time and time again which seemed like the Alamo! but were continually denied by the Celts keeper and were caught on the break to finish the match 3-5. The boys were brilliant in difficult conditions against an older side and I am so proud of them for not giving up and being gracious in defeat.

Bottisham 3-0 Burwell Swallows
Bottisham started the second half of their season with a well deserved win against a strong Burwell side, in a very entertaining match played in good spirits even though there was a strong wind to contend with. The first period saw Bottisham play positive attacking football and eventually were rewarded with a goal from Man-of-the-match Harry D from long range after good work from Luke and Alexander. Burwell tried to push for an equaliser but strong defensive work from Ed F and Harry T snuffed them out. The second period saw more excellent football from Bottisham especially from the battling Ed B and the unselfish Luca and doubled their lead through the perseverance from Callum. The third period saw Burwell come close on couple of occasions but were thwarted by fine saves from skipper and goalkeeper Hugh. The final period saw Sean-Francis score a well deserved goal and Bottisham were unlucky not to add further before the end of this terrific match.

Burwell Tigers A 0-15 Bottisham
Although conditions were difficult this was an entertaining game played in good spirits and maybe the scoreline was abit deceptive. The first period saw Bottisham put a lot of pressure on the Burwell goal and finally scored through an individual effort from Callum. Burwell tried to equalise but Ed F played like his hero John Terry and stopped any promising attacks and if passed saw Hugh F sublime in goal. The second period saw Bottisham blitz the Burwell goal through the efforts of Ed B and Alexander in midfield and man of the match Harry T in defence and saw goals from Sean-Francis(2), Callum (2) to complete his hat-trick, Luke, Ed F, an own goal and Luca (4). The third period saw both teams battle without scoring any goals Burwell were unlucky due to fine saves from Harry D. The final period saw Sean-Francis complete his hat trick with a brace of goals, but the best goal was to come when excellent passing was finished by Ed F on the turn.

Bottisham 13-3 Cottenham
Bottisham started the game with Harry D in goal and were soon taking the lead with Luca slotting in from close range. Luke was commanding in defence and Bottisham were 4 goals to the good before Cottenham pulled 1 back from a corner. The first period eventually finished with Bottisham leading 6-1, which included goals from Callum and Sean-F. For the second period Luca went in goal and 2 more goals were added to Bottisham's total without reply from the visitors. Alex had taken over in central defence and his domination in that position was to earn him the Man of the Match award. Not to be out done Harry T was all over the pitch making vital challenges. Callum went in goal for the third period where Bottisham scored another 5 with particularly good set up play from Sean-F and Ed B showing great awareness to be in the right place at the right time to make some vital tackles. Cottenham got a second, again from a corner. For the final period Sean-F went in goal and Bottisham extended their lead with another goal before Cottenham pulled 1 back from a long range free kick. This was again an excellent win for Bottisham over a very good Cottenham side who also played some great football on the day which only goes to emphasis how good the Bottisham performance was.

Isleham 1-10 Bottisham
This was the return league match played after a night of heavy rain but surprisingly the game was very entertaining and played in great spirit. After a slow start both teams settled into a good passing game and Bottisham broke the deadlock through a long range effort from Harry D when the unlucky 'keeper who parried the shot saw it drop into his goal. This was quickly followed by a second from Bottisham after good work down the wing from Callum crossing for Luca to finish crisply. But Isleham never gave up and after being denied twice by Hugh in goal finally scored a well worked goal. The second period saw Bottisham up the tempo and through hard work from Ed B and Luke saw a further goal from Harry D and an unfortunate own goal from a Bottisham corner. Ed F returning from a three week break in USA scored twice, one of which was a sublime volley from the half way line which dipped under the cross bar. The third period saw Callum score two deserved goals, but Isleham never gave up and came close more than once but were thwarted in goal by Luca and defending from skipper Alexander. The final period saw Callum complete his hat-trick and the final goal was scored by man of the match Harry T who had a superb game in defence

Bottisham 5-3 Newmarket Town B
This league match was played with a strong wind which affected the quality of football, but not the effort showed by both teams, and was played in good spirits. Early exchanges were nervous but Luca played his usual game; unselfish with some great passes, and eventually Bottisham opened the scoring through perseverance from Callum. However Newmarket equalised almost immediately although Hugh in goal was very unlucky. Better passing between Skipper Ed F and Alexander carved out an opening which was finished by Callum, but again Newmarket came straight back and equalised and were unlucky not to go ahead with the wind behind them. The second period saw another 'terrier' performance from Ed B and man-of-the-match Luke who switched to defence and never let the Newmarket forwards get past him. Great team passing ended with Sean-F scoring from a tight angle, and were denied further goals by the Newmarket keeper who made a string of saves. The third period saw Newmarket put pressure on the Bottisham goal and deserved one, however when the goal came Bottisham keeper Hugh was unlucky when a high ball caught by the wind helped bounce over his head and hit the underside of the cross bar and over the line. The final period saw Callum score his 3rd and fourth goals which were well deserved, and again Newmarket were thankful to their keeper who made another string of brilliant saves.

Soham Town 1- 5 Bottisham
This return fixture was played on a breezy but sunny day and turned out to be a very competitive match played in good spirits. Bottisham started subdued maybe coming out in sympathy with Harry D who only flew in day before from USA and started in goal. Eventually Bottisham started to pass the ball around nicely but failed to finish in front of goal. This allowed Soham to take the lead with a lovely strike. Bottisham bounced back when a quick throw taken by Edward F fell to Callum to equalise from close range. The second period saw plenty of possession from Bottisham with great play between Sean-f, Luke and Luca but could not capitalise, while any advance on the Bottisham goal was soon snubbed out by man-of-the-match Edward B who had a superb game in defence. The third period saw Bottisham eventually wake up and through some determined tackling by Alexander allowed Callum to break away and pick his spot and score his second. Then skipper Harry T scored the third when he completed a fantastic move with his left foot! Edward F then made it four with a goal direct from a corner which curled in the top corner and the keeper could only parry into his net. The final period was even until Callum completed a well deserved hat-trick after breaking clear and again picking his spot

Bottisham 8-3 Stretham Sporting
Yet again it would seem the Bottisham players had had a late night ahead of their last home league game and went one down to a good individual effort that Harry D could not stop. However this was quickly erased through the perseverance of Edward F and finished by man-of-the-match Callum. The second period saw Edward F and Harry D swap roles and this had instant success for Bottisham when Harry D bundled the ball over the line. But Stretham plugged away and equalised when a corner was spilled and poked home. Bottisham then took the lead again through great work from their skipper Edward B who created an opportunity for Luke to score. The third period saw Stretham equalise but this seemed to spark Bottisham into life and we saw great passing from Luca, Alexander and Callum resulting in goals from Harry D and then Harry T to make it 5-3. The final period saw Harry D complete a well deserved hat-trick plus goals from Harry T and Luke.

21st April 2007
Waterbeach 2-2 Bottisham
The first period saw both teams playing good football and Harry D was unlucky not to score after a brilliant passing from Luca and Luke. Waterbeach pressed the Bottisham goal but found Edward F solid in defence and Hugh superb in goal meant the period ended goalless. The second period again saw Bottisham come close to scoring on several occasions but it was Waterbeach who grabbed the lead. However Bottisham bounced back through the efforts of Edward B and Harry T and scored by skipper Callum. Again Bottisham came close to taking the lead but in the end it was Waterbeach who edged ahead through a well worked goal. The third period Bottisham put plenty of pressure on the Waterbeach goal with one effort from Harry D just scraping the crossbar but it looked like Bottisham were not to have any luck today. The final period saw some exciting football from both teams and in the final minute through the perseverance of Sean-f allowed skipper Callum to score his second. This was an entertaining match played in good spirits at times tense, but the result meant Bottisham had achieved the honour of being unbeaten for the season:
