Letter One
My Love,
Last night I dreamt of my longing for you, and how it fuels me. I saw you wandering the lonely sands of a beach. You were crying. I followed you, hoping you would see me, but you could not. Still you cried.
I quickened my pace, hoping to catch up, but as I tried, you too began to walk faster. Still you cried.
I broke into a jog, and then a run, and so did you. Now you are screaming in what can only be a deep emotional pain.
I slowed, stopped.
So did you.
You turned around, began to drift towards me, meeting my eyes with your own.
I stepped forward, paused, took another step.
Still you approached me, no longer crying, though still with hurt in your eyes.
We stopped with less than a foot between us. I leaned forward, followed the paths of your tears withmy fingers.
You leaned forward, reached to my cheek with your hand, winced as you felt my pain, and found it as great as yours.
I saw the loneliness, the heartache in your eyes, even as you saw it in mine.
You blinked, stared, as you saw there were tears in my eyes too. You lowered your head, as if in shame.
I reached to your chin, gently pushed your head up.
Our eyes met again.
You sighed as you realised I felt no anger, no malice towards you. And then you smiled as you realised-
'Only love.'
My thoughts broke the silence.
You stepped forward into my embrace, as we kissed passionately, the winds whirling violently around us, the roar of the waves filling the air around us.
Abruptly we stop, and our eyes meet once again. And you see that I need you. You take my hand, and we begin the long walk back along the shore. Smiling.
Yours,
LL
