These 'tiles' will not work on Windows (or Linux) computers. They use the 'sprite' file used on RISC OS computers (formally Acorn Computers.)
This is a page for Acorn Computer users to download backdrop sprites. These are either in 256 shades of grey or 256 colours.. All of them are to be used as 'Tiled' backdrops. Shift-Clicking on the zip file will bring up a save window and drag to a suitable folder on your harddisc. You will need a copy of !Sparkplug to unpack these folders.
ADDED Oct 2001- two extra small tiles (66x66) using the RISCOS Select 'Cog.' - Sprites named 'cogcol' (screen-shot below) and 'coggrey' (same image in light grey) in zip zile 'bkdp12.zip' - 26k zipped down to 3k.

A also have a page of Backdrop Jpeg Images produced using !Compo and !Paint. They are available for download at the following link. The images are available for 'centred' display in three screen sizes:- 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768. All are intended for a 32,000 colour desktop.

Update 29th August '99 - Two further 'zip' files added. The first is 'mytext.zip' which is a zip file of my current 'Textures.' This is a 500k folder that is zipped down to 92k.
Remember - back up your 'Textures' (which will have the same names) before you try these! -

The second new 'zip' file is 'taxan.zip' which is a zipped folder 'taxan' (6k zipped down to under 2k) containing the MDF file '750' which is my current MDF (monitor definition file) for my Taxon 750 TCO95 17in monitor - used with 2Mbs of VRam tweeked up from the standard setting of 152000 to 160000
(ie in '!Boot.Choices.Boot.PreDesk.Configure.!Run' I have 40000 8000 160000 80000)
Remember - this you do at your OWN RISK as driving your VIDC chip over it's spec could damage it and it may prove difficult and costly to replace it! - This is a serious warning!
As an guide to how seriously I take this step I now have an extra fan running inside my Risc PC Case.

The zip file is 25k in size and unpacks to two sprite files of about 28k each.

bkdp10.zip A 'Zipped' folder added 18th March '99 is 'bkdp10/zip' which contains six Risc OS 4 logo backdrop tiles based on the Risc OS 4 logo and Glyn Royds' reworking of it. - the zip file is under 45k but unzips to a 194k folder called 'bkdp10.'
Below is an image of one of the Tiles (200x180 pixels) - and how it looks on the desktop - shown here only as a low quality image. The other backdrops are based on the same theme but since this page is now over 160k in size I have left off their images for now.
bkdp11.zip NEWEST - A 'Zipped' folder added 31st. March '99 is 'bkdp11/zip' which contains six more Risc OS 4 logo backdrop tiles (see bottom of page for first six) based on the Risc OS 4 logo and Glyn Royds' reworking of it. - the zip file is under 44k but unzips to a 204k folder called 'bkdp11.'
Below is an image of one of the Tiles (200x180 pixels) - and how it looks on the desktop - three are 200x180 pixels and three are 200x150 pixels in size. They are all based on the same 'tile' but some are colour and some are 256 shades of grey. Since this page is now over 180k in size I have just shown one 'tile' the others in this Zip file are very similar.
