• Roger Hawkins photographed a few of the rather large and impressive Spanish steam express locomotives in 1969 using Kodachrome colour transparency film. These have now been digitally ‘dusted’ and the first photograph of 241F-2108 has been digitally converted to black and white as certain colours appear to have faded, in particular at the blue end of the spectrum, and this has given the images an almost monochrome quality. When scanning the slides research revealed that the fabulous RENFE 242F-2009 shown in the lower photograph had recently been restored to full working order by the Associació Reconstructicció Material Ferroviari (A.R.M.F.).
