The Museum is owned and managed by the Museum of Communication Foundation Trust (MocFT), a charitable trust set up in 1993. The MoCFT has approximately 120 members and is led by a Board of Directors drawn from the membership. The directors have a broad mix of  relevant skills in Electronics, Mechanics, IT, Education, Business Planning and Management, Finance and Museum Management. Some have recently retired from senior positions in industry. The Foundation has enjoyed a particularly close association with Edinburgh University. Its patron is Professor Heinz Wolff.

The Foundation has had a profound impact on the museum. With the involvement of specialists in many areas of communication, work on restoration and preservation has progressed and the seemingly endless task of producing a comprehensive catalogue of the Collection is underway.

With members in all parts of the UK and various corners of the world, not all Foundationers can play an active role. However, 'working holidays' combined with a little sight-seeing have attracted members from Germany, Japan, the USA and 'south of the border' - in some cases taking home equipment to be restored and returned at a later date! The regular publication of a Newsletter maintains close contact with all members.

The Board of Directors manage all aspects of the Museum and its operations. The Board meets, usually monthly, to discuss issues and review progress with the many objectives which is it pursuing at the present time.
