A guide to British Machin definitives by Andrew Hill

These are the 1st, 2nd, E and now a few more issues which have no value indicated, selling for whatever the rate was at the time. They first appeared in 1989 and, at first glance, can seem a bit boring as there were just 4 main colours of 1st and only 2 2nd. Nevertheless, my list is already at 221 entries and whilst many are booklets with repeated stamps there are still plenty of distict items to look for. Now we have PiP - Postage in Proportion - which will confuse everyone but at least give us some more material for a while. Look out, too, for the 1993 horizontal 1st issue which was the first self-adhesive.

At present I have separated the gummed stamps from the self-adhesives but I may merge the list one day and just note the s-a items as a type within the one list. Although most people will have missed them in 1993, since 1997 they've filled umpteen pages, mostly awkwardly too as all but a few come from booklets I'm loathe to break up. The real NVI goodies are imperf tops, sides or bottoms from early booklets and some perforation changes as well, of course, as singles from Prestige booklet panes.

Regional NVIs are the pictorial definitives in separate country lists and the few 1st flame with emblems from a couple of 2000 booklets.
