How far will you travel?
At present Make it Science will only travel within one hours journey time from Andover, Hampshire. Exceptions may be made especially at the weekends. Please ask if you are unsure.

How long do the shows last?
All science shows last around one hour.
All science workshops contain a half hour show followed by a half hour ‘make and take’ activity. Some workshops can be extended so that they last up to two hours. Extended workshops are only recommended for the over 8s.
If you are running a fete or a festival you can book the ‘make and take’ activities without the show.

How long does it take for Make it Science to set up?
The presenter will arrive at your venue three quarters of an hour before the show is due to start. Please make sure the furniture is arranged for the show before Make it Science arrives. It would be helpful if the room is vacant whilst the show is being set up as some of the surprises may be spoilt if the audience is in the vicinity. It will take about half an hour for the show to be packed away.

What type of room is best?
For the science shows it is best to use a large hall, however any big room with a reasonably high ceiling is suitable.
Workshops can be carried out in a classroom but some may need blackout facilities or outdoor space. Please ask if you are unsure.

What equipment will I need to supply?
You will need a hall big enough for your audience, two long tables set out at the front, some chairs for the audience set out theatre style (if possible,) a kettle and access to a water supply. Some shows will require a high ceiling, a blackout and/or outdoor space.

How many people can take part?
The workshops are designed for a maximum of thirty participants.
The science shows are designed for up to 200 people but more can take part if discipline is good and the facilities allow. Science specialist schools could organise a show as part of their obligation to the local community.
Twenty participants are recommended for INSET and conference workshops.

Do adults have to attend?
For children under the age of eight, plenty of adult help will be required during a ‘make and take’ activity. For children over eight a minimum of two adults should be in attendance for all workshops.
Make it science shows should always be attended by adults.
Adult attendance is important for discipline, help with reading, help with some of the more fiddly craft processes and for feedback later on. Risk assessments have been carried out and include adult attendance as above.

What is the difference between a science show and a science workshop?
Science shows are presenter led talks with demonstrations that may require volunteers from the audience. The shows will be very interactive containing drama, question and answers sessions, experiments and story telling.
Science workshops contain a short show and a ‘make and take’ activity which will demonstrate the science covered in the show. Competitions and prizes can be included on request.

What will fit into a school ‘Make it Day?’
The day will start with a whole school science show. After the show has been packed away the first class workshop can begin. This will be a stand alone ‘make and take’ activity. After lunch a second class workshop will take place. If a competitive element has been part of the workshops, prizes will be handed out before the equipment is packed away and the presenter leaves.
