DisKan is a new band, with an approach to traditional music and song which is at once innovative and exciting, yet true to the traditions. The repertoire comes principally from Ireland and Brittany, with regular incursions into Balkan territory. The ancient music of O’Carolan, Irish jigs and reels, Breton plinns and gavottes, Renaissance branles and Balkan rachenitsas – lovingly prepared with sophistication and sensitivity, to offer a delicious musical feast. The traditions of England, Scotland and Ireland provide the inspiration for the songs: historical and seafaring ballads, songs of emigration, love and loss.
