Fume cupboards are designed for exactly
that---fumes. Unlike microbiological safety cabinets fume cupboards do not
generally exhaust their air through hepa filtration.
Designed to exhaust fumes from the laboratory environment. Traditional British designed fume cupboards incorporate a bypass grille will reduces the effect if increased face velocity when the sash height is lowered. Material of manufacture can be of either GRP (glass reinforced plastic) or metal (stainless or carbon) often determined as to what the fume cupboard is to be used for. Recirculating fume cupboards are becoming ever more popular but should not be confused with traditional ducted units as their performance is not comparable like for like.
