| Weighing powders can and is often a hazardous
process
requiring varying degrees of protection for the operator.
Powder weighing presents a number of considerations in the cabinet design, not least how
stable the cabinet is allowing for sensitive weighing measurements and of course the protection
against a solid (powder) as opposed to an aerosol (the normal usage of a
microbiological (biohazard) safety cabinet - msc).
Essentially powder weighing cabinets fall into two categories: 1) the
simple (relatively inexpensive) inward airflow design (very popular) incorporating a shield for the balance, thus
reducing the effects of the inward airflow and 2) when protection is
required for both the operator and the material in the cabinet a specially
modified class II type msc.
The simple inflow cabinet as mentioned above is normally a relatively
inexpensive piece of equipment where as the modified class II msc (if it's
done right) can be several times more expensive depending on a number of
usage/design factors.
