Durham Arts Festival - June 14th - June 21st
EDAN has agreed to take part in ‘Durham Arts Festival’ which takes place June 14th – 21st; during this week members of EDAN will move into ‘The Gates Shopping Centre’ when between 35 – 40 artists will flood the entire Centre with art work. Large and small scale paintings, sculptures, glass pieces, installations and community based projects. The idea being to take art out of the gallery situation and return it to the public realm, by allowing the public to access art on the way to the shops, giving them the opportunity of interacting with the art and the artist who created it. This will give EDAN members the opportunity of taking their art to the public on a large scale.
Art in the Garden - July 13th - August 31st
During July and August EDAN has been asked to develop the annual ‘Art in the Garden’ at Crook Hall in Durham City. 13th century Crook Hall is one of the oldest inhabited houses in Durham city; it is a jumble of buildings reflecting its historical development. Surrounding the Hall are 6 acres of romantic garden rooms such as the Cathedral Garden and the Secret Walled Garden. Durham’s bustling market place is a short walk away; visitors describe the gardens as a ‘peaceful oasis’ A fact that possibly led William Wordsworth and John Ruskin to visit for quiet contemplation!
Several EDAN members have participated in previous ‘Art in the Garden’ events before, in fact one of our founding members David Gross has taken part in all previous 8 events Edan members will be invited to produce work that reflects on both the gardens and the Hall. This will be primarily an outdoor exhibition of sculpture and installation art with a small indoor exhibition of 2D work. During the 7 week period we intend to run workshops and other art related activities which will be open to the general public; Crook Hall itself has the facilities to accommodate any such event in a perfect setting within the centre of Durham City. gallery...
