Maggie Parker

Many of the most influential arts movements in the past century – for example Dada, Surrealism, and so many others - arguably, were all playing games of one genre or another. As an artist, I have created a new space to play a ’meditation’ game…

Why should all computer games make you alert? Why can’t there be a computer game with other attributes, possibilities of use which have been suggested are people with mental health problems, people dying and wanting to be in a gorgeous virtual environment that they have full control over and for relaxation after a tough day at the office and fighting traffic trying to get home.

Creating this game has now allowed me to test immersion into this world. In this ‘Star World’ computer game, you cannot hurry through the world, the controls are set so you can only move slowly, there are soft sounds – the wind from a Welsh hillside, words that you discover when navigating around the environment such as ‘Relax’, ‘Listen to the wind’, and chiming sounds in the goblets

In my digital art-pieces seen below, I am continuing to explore how cyberspace intervention can transform real world images.
