Imperial College Wye is at the heart of the small country town of Wye in Kent.

A college has been in the town since the middle of the fifteenth century, and several of the oldest College buildings date from this time. The main college buildings are set amidst attractive quadrangles and gardens. The Wye campus occupies a 300-hectare estate, which includes a farm, managed woodland and ancient grassland that provide outstanding research resources for agro ecological research.

These resources are augmented by extensive glasshouses, climate-controlled growth rooms for plants and insects, and a new containment facility for transgenic plants, that support the laboratory-based research. There are dedicated laboratories for plant molecular biology, genomic and gene sequencing, electron microscopy, use of radio chemicals, microbiology, soil analysis, and plant/animal cell culture.

All research and teaching on the Wye campus is supported by the Kempe Centre, a state of the art library and IT service, which provides an excellent, modern study environment with electronic links to the central and other library facilities of Imperial College. Accommodation for students is divided between two main sites:

  • College halls, located on the main College site and
  • The Withersdane site about 10 minutes’ walk from the main campus, on which there are five halls of residence, providing catered or self-catered accommodation.
