MARKET FESTIVAL
Carnival Arena Attractions – Monday 30th May 2005
2pm
OFFICIAL OPENING OF CARNIVAL DAY
by the Mayor of Downham Market, Councillor Colin Sampson, including the
announcement and presentation of the Downham
Market Citizen of the Year Award again promoted by the Lynn
News and Norfolk
Citizen. The £100 prize money has been donated by ChemCure.
2.15pm
THE VANDER BROTHERS’ DOUBLE
WHEEL SPECTACULAR. This 60 ft high Double Wheel of Death attraction
requires the two performers to have nerves of steel as they take part in these
daring activities. Magnificent feats of balance by magnificent showmen. Not an
event for the faint hearted to take part in but all the thrills of the main
arena are there for your entertainment. It has to be seen to be believed.
2.25pm
BOZO and ZIZI with FREDDIE THE
FIRE ENGINE continue the entertainment in the arena this afternoon. The
two experienced clowns along with Freddie’s antics will keep Kids of all
ages rocking with laughter. Described as ‘Wet, Wild and Crazy’ their fun
in the main arena will wash all your worries away.
2.55pm
COVENTRY CORPS OF DRUMS MARCHING
BAND make a welcome return to the Downham Market Carnival arena. The Band
was formed in 1947 and has become one of the most famous and respected youth
marching bands in the country. Appearances have taken them all over the UK as
well as tours overseas to Belgium, Holland, Germany, Luxemburg, Switzerland,
France and Norway. In 1983 they became the first non American corps to march
in the prestigious Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.
The Corps
consists of young people aged 9 to 21 with their uniform styled upon that of
Her Majesty’s Royal Marines. Their repertoire includes ballet, traditional
marches, classics and jazz and their instrumentation consists of full bugles,
drums, tuned percussion and keyboards.
3.15pm
PRESENTATION OF BEST DRESSED
FLOATS AWARDS. You have seen the Parade as it made its way through the
Town. The judges have made their decisions and now it is time to present the
trophies. A great deal of work has gone into the decorations – everyone is a
winner for taking part. It could be you next year.
3.25pm
BOZO and ZIZI return to the
arena with yet another session of fun for people of all ages. Will FREDDIE
the FIRE ENGINE behave himself this time? Your guess is as good as anyone
else’s but when clowns get together with water it is unlikely that there
will be much peace and tranquility!
3.50pm
THE VANDER BROTHERS’ DOUBLE
WHEEL SPECTACULAR again returns to the arena to amaze us with their daring
feats on the death-defying Double Wheel. More tricks and dare-devil moves to
set your nerves on edge – and you will only be watching.
