uk psy trance scene 2008 UNDER CONSTRUCTION
NORTHERN IRELAND:
I suppose this is going to be a short entry for NI I'm afraid as there is absolutely NO
action here ATM.
For a good few years there was Bloop City in Belfast and we had loads of ones like Eat
Static, John Phantasm and a load of
Dutch and Norwegian DJs over to play but as all the pubs and clubs here close their bars
at 1-2am there is not much happening
in the pubs/clubs. The smoking ban isn't helping either. The underground scene is mainly
Acid Techno, Dubstep and Reggae and
while there are a number of great PSY DJs who have played all over Europe there is nowhere
to play here cos it's not the
in-thing/no venues/cop crackdowns. Hey it's a SMALL city! (There's more people in Hackney
than all of NI!)
There is always Tetris Safari.
Bloop City has grown into Dream Tunnel but the main man, Druid is off on his travels real
soon so the future looks grim. He's
done a lot for Psy in NI including getting a stage at the Chav-fest, Planet Love but he's
fighting the tide and now he's off
again. Hardly blame him.
So here's a couple of wee links to Psy and its DJs in Belfast/NI past and present in no
particular order.

Merseyside:
After Traveling up and down the UK visiting Psy Trance Parties I have found the Northwest
to be the most fluffiest and
friendliest. I seem to be surrounded by so much talent these days with so many young and
up and coming stars of our future
just waiting to be noticed.
One of the North Wests longest standing night around is Alien Resonance at the
Zanzibar, Slater Street, which celebrated its
9th birthday party October 2007, this night has seen off the most well known events in
Liverpool and is still going strong
with some well known DJs playing there including Tristan who helped celebrate the last
birthday party.
DJ Vek or Kev to his friends is the last of the Co founders and with his natural ability
in playing the drums gives him a
natural rhythm for beat matching. The Décor is always out standing with huge colourful
backdrops and projections. The up
stairs is the chill out area with comfy sofas to relax on.
If however you are around the New Brighton area on the Wirral during the summer months and
you like a bit of outdoor action
then Ultra Violet is the place to be. I have watched this event grow in popularity from
the beginning which is 4 years now
and is a lock out by 11.30pm. This is set in an old fort which is a museum by day by the
River Merseys edge. The main area
is in a big Marquis you step out and you can witness fire juggling and breathing, it has a
café and chill out and down stairs
you can listen to some alternative music. The two Residents Giggles and Daydream AKA Jen
and Mel have the crowd dancing their
socks off by the end of the night. As much as this event is set in a beautiful place the
licence is only till 2am which makes
the after parties even longer.
One of the North Wests newest nights is Soma Sonic, this has just celebrated its 2nd
birthday party, these partys have no
fixed venue, always in a warehouse in and around the Liverpool area.
This night is run by quite a few people, all very young and talented on the music side and
making their own décor. Ryan
(psyoniC EntitY) and Kris (Terrazania) take care of the tunes and Thom (Guano unsane) and
Micha look after the décor and
venue and also sell psy jewelry and clothes.
At the first birthday party Thom and Micha spent 3 days setting up the décor, which was
all of a glow under the countless UV
tubes.
This event is usually on for 12 hours and will be on every 2 months during 2008 with some
well known DJs playing there.
Soma Sonic is growing in popularity every year as their reputation gets more established.
You can find details on all the above on the Celtic Psy Trance Forum, which has helped
bring all the Tribes together as one
in the Northwest and has helped many to enlighten their spirit and expand their mind.

North East:
Psytrance In the North of England and Scotland tends to be on a smaller scale than the
rest of the country but interest and
audiences are growing due mainly to the efforts of the following crews.
Trauma Trance/Astral Helix. This crew is based in the North East and have been putting on
club and free parties for about 5
years. They do not have a clubnight at the moment but they are always willing to help
others with djs, rig, backdrops etc.
which they have provided for indoor and outdoor events both sides of the border. They are
currently working with the Psybase
crew from Yorkshire on outdoor projects for 2008 and assisting them with their clubnight
Activation Portal.
Concious Monkeys. This is a new clubnight at the Cooperage in Newcastle which has had a
promising start with Psytrance main
room and alternative second floor. Looks set to be a regular monthly event with nice
decor, lovely promoters and a friendly
up for it dancefloor.
Dreaded Fairies. A bi-monthly clubnight at the Brickyard in Carlisle which was started 2
years ago by dj and promoters Linzi
aka dj puppeteer and Ali aka Timelord 2012. This night has gone from strength to strength
and recent collaborations with DJ
Terrazania and the Soma Sonic crew from Liverpool have resulted in a brilliant night with
some amazing performances from up
and coming UK producers and djs.
Planet Monkey. This is a collective based in Edinburgh who have been putting on indoor and
outdoor events for 3 or 4 years
now. Their main outdoor event was the Psychedelic Ceilidh which had a promising start in
2006 with support from the Liquid
Connective and Trauma Trance. Sadly however the Psychedelic Ceilidh for 2007 hit problems
and promoters were forced to cancel
the event a few days before the start date due to impossible restrictions imposed by
police and local authorities. A
clubnight in Edinburgh and outdoor fun later in the year look like posibilities for 2008.
The Wickerman Festival. This is an annual festival held near Dundrennan, South West
Scotland and featuring all types of
music. There is always a Psytrance tent organised by Timelord 2012 featuring a more
international lineup of djs and producers
playing on the largest dance rig on site.
Elsewhere in Scotland parties do happen but a shortage of venues/locations is a problem.
Anyone with indoor or outdoor venues
who wish to have parties need only get in touch. Both Trauma Trance and Psybase have
provided equipment and artists for
Scottish parties as far North as Inverness.

The Synergy Community
The Synergy Project is a vibrant community of like-minded people, putting together some of
the most forward-thinking club
nights in the UK.
The Synergy Centre in South London is a separate organisation designed to reach out on a
more local level and engage with
diverse, disadvantaged communities. It was created with they support of the Synergy
Project.
Both organisations promote the work of partner NGOs through hosting info stalls at their
events, mailout support, information
pages on this website, and the petition page.
See our 'get involved' section for ways to join the Synergy Project Community.
Also see the Synergy Project's Synergy Research section to participate in furthering the
culture of conscious partying..
after all you our audience are what make synergy just as much as we do!
The philosophy of the Synergy Project
The Synergy Project
Synergy is a magical indoor festival, combining musicians, Djs, Vjs, performers, and
artists from all corners of creativity,
joined by various proactive NGOs and charities with the expressed aim to make a
difference.
Synergy strives to create an optimistic approach in raising awareness on the many crucial
issues affecting our world today.
The events gather some of the UKs leading creative multimedia organizations joined
by international NGOs such as Oxfam,
Survival, Speak, WDM, Down2Earth, Greenpeace, Campaign Against Climate Change to provide
just the right mix of open hearted
enjoyment and meaningful reflection for a new direction.
In a society in which generally perceives clubbing as a form of escapism associated with
values of transgression, Synergy
re-invents the clubbing experience by transforming it into an educational
tool, associating healthy values of
sustainability and social justice to strong role models such as respected artists and
performers of the entertainment
industry. Creating awareness with more efficient means to reach directly a young audience
that might be otherwise reluctant
to receive, respect, and incorporate such messages when proposed by conventional sources.
Now in its 5th year running and with a wealth of experience and depth the Synergy Project
continues to inspire people from
all walks of life to re-evaluate their views on club culture and beyond

http://toadstool.org.uk/toadstool/index.htm
(their forum - http://toadstool.freephpbbforum.co.uk/ )
@ Crackers - Gloucester
Toadstool is an idea borne from many influences along a musical journey.....
We ( Nick & Corky) come from a 'Hard Rock' background as Nick used to play in a semi
pro Rock band
years ago.
Our trancical journey began when we were introduced to dance music by Fungi-Psy'd, about 7
years ago. He was playing hard
trance then and we got hooked. Then it was off to experience bigger clubs in places like
Bristol and Birmingham. Well that
was it...we wanted more, but good quality music. Nick being a musician wanted to hear the
best dj's.
That's when we discovered John 00 Fleming......was it fate?...read on....
John's style of music and mixing really caught us. The night we saw him play in Creation
in Bristol was the night to subtly
change our lives.
We went on to Euphoric Trance, then to Progressive, Deep Trance. Nick by now had started
dj'ing.
Vinyl was flying through the door at a rate of knots. we couldn't get enough of it. John
was leading us to all the very best
produced tunes, we were spoilt.
We saw him play whenever we could, and started noticing odd tunes that he was playing
sounded different to the normal
trance...they had stops and starts and a certain energy that trance didn't have, accents
and synth noises that perked up our
ears....this....was psy trance .
The real push towards the psy scene came from a friend - Jerry. We had introduced him to
clubbing a year before and I guess
this was a good way to repay us...you bet!! He told us about a night on in Bristol where
we could get a taste of real psy
trance.
We had been getting disillusioned with the general clubbing scene. But this all changed
that night. There were brightly
dressed folk of all type and age. Face painting, UV lights everywhere making dancers glow.
The walls had UV backdrops which
made the place look magical. And tea & coffee if you wanted it. that impressed us both
not being big alcohol drinkers!
Everyone was friendly to us as if they knew we were on the right road.
Psy trance music completely took us over, Nick was itching to play it so we found a pub in
town that had DJ's play and set up
our first Toadstool party in April 2004 - We then teamed up with friends - Wayne, Rana,
Fungi-Psy'd , Boris, Danielle, Liz
Tim & Dawn and put on regular monthly nights from then on. We had a few problems with
venues as we grew but ended up finding
Crackers in Gloucester which suits us for now.
Its been 3 and a half years now and Toadstool has come a long way, but our love of good
quality Psy trance tunes has not
wavered and we all strive to bring out the best in audio and visual for the discerning
party goer!!!!
The Toadstool Crew are all committed to bringing psy trancers and party people what they
want and lifting them off the dance
floor with the best tunes that can be found. Put that together with the special atmosphere
only found in this scene, where
people are allowed to be themselves.... a togetherness of like minded people. With great
surroundings and the sort of sound
system that brings the music alive. The best equipment to bring out the best in the dj's
as they whip every one up into a
frenzy of smiles and waving arms.
We don't take ourselves too seriously, but what we do take seriously is planning a night
for your and our enjoyment and to
see all the smiling faces.....that makes us happy!!!!
So, why not make the journey with us - come along and see for yourself.....every 3rd
Friday at Crackers

FREEFALL MONKEY was born from the desire to rave, party to the max, push boundaries and to
give everyone who thinks the same
a medium to play in. As promoters, our energy, love and light form part of this. Each of
us exists within the chaos of
FREEFALL and the dark side of his playground - banging Psy-trance! Our mission is to
provide a space for our friends to dance
to great music, and most importantly, to make a space for everyone to be who they are and
lose themselves in a reality driven
by the desire for happiness.

Penzance - cornwall
Now into our second year - We have new decor, new lights, themed nights and cd's for sale.
Come and see what everybody is
smiling about!
What is Hypertribe?
Hypertribe is a Cornish night dedicated to fun, smiles, dancing, and of course Psytrance.
Our aim was to start a night that's like no other in Cornwall.. A night where everybody is
there to have fun and dance, and
where everybody can feel welcome to come and enjoy the music.
We spent a while getting together enough decor, and ideas (such as visuals) to really put
on a good night, and then found The
Regent, a large pub in Penzance, that said we could do our night there. We gave it a go,
and the next thing we know, we're
booked in all year (and now all this year!).
We chose a pub because we wanted to keep the night free. Knowing that the Psytrance
following in Cornwall is minimal in
comparison to most of the UK, we figured this was the best way to get people to experience
our night.
We are now in our 2nd year and hopefully things will continue to grow and develop. - Maybe
in the future doing festivals or
other nights in different parts of the UK.
Until then we'll continue to work hard to bring you the best psychedelic entertainment
available in Cornwall!
Who is behind Hypertribe?
There are 4 main Members that make up the Hypertribe team, but that doesn't mean there
aren't plenty of other people that
help in the general running of things.
Here you'll find info about the people that work hard to keep hypertribe going
Psy-Clone (James)
Psy-clone has been dj'ing for about 4 years, and producing his own tunes for nearly 2
years. He fell in love with PsyTrance 6
years ago, and has never looked back, and is one of the core members of Hypertribe.
As well as being a resident DJ (and more recently producing his own tunes), he helps with
the decoration, visuals, promotion
and web site development.
Zetan Spore (Ian and Mark)
This duo make up Zetan Spore - an electronic, euphoric psy-trance set, featuring live
digeridoo and guitar work from Mark,
and live synth work from Ian. - They always know how to get a floor jumping!
Like Psy-clone, they are core members, helping with decor, lights, and providing the sound
system (custom built). - They have
also recently been designing some backdrops that we now use.
Ian also designs all the posters
Fractal Dimensions (Seb)
Seb is the final core member that make up the group, and as well as being a resident dj,
helps out with promotion, and decor.
Seb recently ran into some bad luck involving his equipment, and so went away to Thailand
for a break. But he assures us he
will be
Judge Jon
Judge Jon, although not a resident dj is still one of the crew. He plays with us on a
regular basis, and provides decor when
necessary.
Katie, Nikki
Katie and Nikki help with the decor and the setting up of each night and are also almost
always found dancing away at the
front - getting everyone else in the same mood!
Special Mentions..
Caz (Elly-Mental) helps a lot more than she needs to - running her own night separate from
ours, she still finds time to help
us with ours by providing some astonishing decor, and also playing the occasional set.
She also spends a lot of her time helping promote each night, and always brings a lot of
her friends!
Everyone else!
I'm sure there are some people that help that i have missed, but we are very grateful for
all the help we receive.
We also couldn't do it without you lot turning up with your smiles and dancing - so thank
you!

Ripsnorter - Dj Pod's Bristol Crew - Check them out - they do the best boat parties!!!
http://www.ripsnorter.co.uk/
About >> The Ripsnorter Story
It all started back in early 97 at Club 19, Easton, Bristol. The resident DJ's Lady Base
and DJ Pod met and found they not
only shared the same musical tastes and enthusiasm, but they had previously known each
other. This was back in the late 80's
following bands like New Model Army, The Mission and Ghost Dance.
An opportunity arouse to put on a night at the club, so a name was needed. The name came
straight out of the Oxford
dictionary, it's slang and means "remarkable , energetic, impressive thing or
person", rather apt we thought, so Ripsnorter
was born on May 10th 1997 .
Unfortunately Club 19 closed so the Rippers went up north to Stroud. Jo-Jo's was a wicked
500 capacity club with plenty of
potential. The cream of the Bristol and London DJ's were booked at every Friday from
August till December speading the
magical Ripsnorter vibe. However, the decision was made to come back to our homeland. Our
friends at Oftec P.A offered us The
Rummer Basement, a perfect little venue for an underground clubnight.
The Rummer had been the rave club of the early 90's but since then Lakota and Club Loco
had drawn the growing crowds of
ravers. It took 6 months to get punters back into the city centre club. In September
'Ripsnorter goes Hard' was a real
turning point, Colinizer rocked and the crowd loved it. From then on there was just no
stopping the Ripsnorter crew, which
now had a team of dedicated helpers. Quality DJ's and theme nights were the order of the
day. Problems started to occur with
the management and so the last tunes were spun in May 99, 2 years on from the first night.
Over 300 punters crammed into the
Basement for 'Ripsnorter goes Raving' which was truly the best night to date.
The madness continued throughout the Summer. In July the second 'Mystery Tour' was
planned, a party on a boat. Not only did
we have the sunniest weather, we had the 'Pod Punch' and 50 'avinit mates to join the
residents on a wicked boat trip. This
was all repeated in August, these parties are now legendary in Bristol! Keep an eye on the
site for news of boat parties.
Earlier in the year 'Tripoli Trax' had approached Ripsnorter to host a launch party for
their second album. It's not normally
our policy to book such big name DJ's but as they'd asked we thought we could do a one off
big gig. The Depot was perfect, 2
big rooms and ample space for other ideas. The night was a complete success and drew in a
crowd from all over the place.
Before the year was out The Rippers enjoyed another bangin' party on December 11th (Pod's
birthday).
The year 2000 started off with a bang in January with a sell-out night raising nearly 3k
for Oxfam. In February the Rippers
jumped ship to do a one-off party aboard the Thekla. From March onwards Ripsnorter built
up momentum delivering top quality
nights making it one of the flagship nights of Bristol. The little extras that make it
stand out had been added, Vodka jelly,
ice pops, extra staging, cooling fans and Haggler's Corner for glow sticks and Ripsnorter
merchandise and the new look
Ripsnorter TV in the poolroom. Also Martin and Liz, the then promotional team behind
Ripsnorter took over the bookings at the
Depot.
Ripsnorter became well established at The Depot, on the 1st Saturday of the month, and was
invited to do collaberations up
and down the country with party crews like Pickle, Planet Zogg and Coolaid....but then in
june 2004 the bad news came - The
Depot was shutting!
With Liz now off to pasture's new, Ripsnorter had become more crew orientated with more
decisions taken collectively. This
left us in a stronger position to move from venue to venue and since the Depot's demise
the crew have brought the Ripper
touch to The Black Swan, Trinity Centre, Sk8 'n' Ride, The Blue Mountain, and more
recently as far away as Seaton and
Plymouth.
We now have a really strong crew; Tufty and Caz our decor specialists, Big Si on the
lights, Wednesday the best UV body
artist in the area, Amy our backdrop artist, Kamikazee for the crystal grid and smudging,
Big Mal for security, Stu the
PC/webman, Alan the indispensible odd-job man, Jake the designer, Rob the dancer, Jules
and Amy on the stall plus Monkey Boy,
Twisted Tim, Haydn, Greg, Paul, Tony the Pom, Alex Absolute, Catjane, Cheeky Tim, Pooka
and Sam, Georgi, Hippy Jon, Flo n
Mick, Guarana Tim and plenty more that help out on the day.
More emphasis is now put on performers - for too long DJs have been the centre of
attention, but it takes more than a DJ to
make the party kick - we have Lucifer's Lounge as our resident fire jugglers when we do
outdoor venues and The Nataraja
Trance-L8ers are our amazing costumed shamanic dancers.
On the music front, many parties these days are too genre specific and specialised for the
average underground party goer so
we select DJs that cross the musical boundaries of hard-trance, psy-trance, NRG and
techno, and this is paying off in the
main room. Breaks has risen to become the sound of room 2 and we have a very strong team
of residents in both rooms.
The scene in the South-West has been evolving, but Ripsnorter is still the leading night
in the area for hard underground
clubbing...

For 10 years Kundalini has reliably been at the cutting edge of psy-trance music in the
UK, a blueprint for all that's best
in the underground trance scene & the one collective that seems to unite the global
trance community with it's energy, vibe &
unforgettable parties, blowing the lid off convention.
Always striving to give you the most positive euphoric atmosphere. Like being at a house
party but with more people, bigger
and better sound, and incredible live PA's and most importantly of all, a greater
collective spirit.
The Kundalini magic with the concept of New Form Music has to be experienced to be
believed.
New Form Music is working as a big sound umbrella covering psy trance, progressive
grooves, world and ambient rhythms, to
make an eclectic sonic jam of total groove.
Giving you more than just a night out of hedonism, but giving you what you've been
missing, something just a little bit
deeper, meaningful and positive.
As has always been felt on the Kundalini dance floor there is a total feeling of openness,
sincerity and togetherness.
Constantly striving to provide an environment to give you a total full on, all round party
experience.
Find at Kundalini the pure basics, an environment where joy, bliss and compassion can
prosper and most of all some of the
finest quality lighting, music and party atmosphere in the UK.
Always striving to move forward and breaking convention pushing the psy-trance formula,
over ten years we debuted of some of
the most prolific and influential ground breaking artists, Bus, Ux (aka Pete Martin
Slide), GMS, Logic Bomb, Noospheare,
Cydonia, Yumade, Tripiatrick, Atmos, Wizzy Noise, & X Dream to name just a few....And
that's just the main room..
Kundalini's chill out, is transformed into a magical "Earth Garden" by Liquid Li
& Elemental. With sun drenched tribal
grooves... deep funky sound schapes.
Pure liquid grooves for you to melt into, recreating that intimate living room feeling -
whether you want to get sexy and
wiggle it, eat and drink, chat, or just bliss out!
One Illusion lighting company recreates new lighting dimensions for you to experience,
well renowned and respected as being
the best light show for those in the know. The visual experience is based on the colours
off the flyer and they drench you in
these frequencies all night.
And in the third area the music is pure ambience, the melt down area preformed live by the
Joint Intelligence Committee. This
is 100% live organic music for six hours. With the JIC sound there is a special blend of
dreamy, organic head music born out
of the smoky atmosphere of Amsterdam coffee shops to beaches world wide.
With Live percussion, drums, mid guitar, synths & no computers!
Our events are put together in the true sprit of underground partying with help from many
friends. We pass all our energy's
and love for life into the party to help create something special & unique... Hope you
can join in one day.
Ten Years ago Steve and Andy realised that the intensity and power of the parties that
they were creating needed to have a
name that represented this (Originally the parties were called serve chilled, as the first
events were on Sundays in the
beginning... however everyone who attended the parties contributed to an electric
atmosphere that you could almost touch)
The concept of kundalini, being the essential life force inside us through which we all
must progress to realise our true
spiritual potential, became the only name that could describe what was occurring.
>From the base chakra to ultimate realisation, and the end of the suffering that goes
with the cycle of birth and rebirth,
our lot as mere human beings is mapped out, weather we are aware of this or not. The power
of kundalini is undeniable... it
is smaller than the smallest and hence can not be seen, it is bigger than the biggest and
there for you can't get under it,
over it or around it... it just is.
The kundalini parties have intensity, direction, and a shared purpose, weather conciously
or unknowing you have and will
continue to create unity on the dance floor, and in all of our hearts and minds.
The energy and the vibe that you bring to the party will be magnified many times to share
with the collective consciousness
of all present, and you will take away more than you brought... this is the nature of
things... the 10000 things rise and
fall but kundalini always is.
We look forward to becoming one again.
