Jonah, Jonah, what's going on deep down inside?
Tell me, what's going through your mind?
What's going through your mind?

Outside the city there you sat in that shelter you had made.
You seemed so glad about that plant which grew, providing shade.
Then along came that worm which caused the plant to die that very day;
You were so sad about it that you said "Take my life away!"

Jonah, Jonah, what's going on deep down inside?
Tell me, what's going through your mind?
What's going through your mind?

Jonah you cared so much about that plant even though . . .
You did not work, you did not toil, or cause the thing to grow.
There are thousands of souls too young to know their left hand from their right
Shouldn't I care about them? Shouldn't I save them from their plight?

Jonah, Jonah, what's going on deep down inside?
Tell me, what's going through your mind?
What's going through your mind?

Shouldn't I care about them?
Shouldn't I care about them?
Shouldn't I care about them?
Shouldn't I save them from their plight?
