One day a new decree went out,
A census there would be;
And each to his own town must go
To register their family.
And to the busy little town
The crowds of people came;
It seemed like half the world was there,
That night in Bethlehem.
No room in town, no room in the town.

Now Joseph came to Bethlehem;
Of David's line was he;
And with his wife he travelled down
From Nazareth in Galilee.
And soon her first child would be born,
They sought a place to stay;
But every room was occupied,
The inn was full that day.
No room in town, no room in the town.

A stable was the only place
That could be offered them.
No other option did they have,
Nowhere else in Bethlehem.
And in that stable in that town,
The child was born, and so
A manger was the Saviour's bed
Two thousand years ago
No room in town, no room in the town.
No room in town, no room in the town.
