Research Advice for Whitley Trust Staff

This was a single full-day session held at the beneficiaries’ headquarters in Paignton. The advice concerned bioacoustic research and analysis paradigms with captive animals. One of the specific questions dealt with playback of howler monkey calls; discussing provisional results and plans for using the technique to enhance welfare and hence breeding success.

Other Patterns of Research Advice

Research advice to other individuals and organizations has followed the pattern of several shorter sessions of a couple of hours over several months. The sessions took place at several venues including field sites. This extended and flexible pattern of knowledge transfer is better suited to research where the advice needed will change as results are obtained. One example is advice given to the local (i.e. Cornwall) officer of a national NGO on the census, monitoring and conservation action required for a locally highly endangered species.
