Instructors at Dragonfly Aikikai

As principal instructor of Seijitsu Aikido Ryu and Dragonfly I am delighted to introduce you to the team of instructors that regularly teach at Great Wyrley, I have asked them to introduce themselves.

I would like to add that no club functions with out a good team and commitment, I am lucky I have commitment by the members and an excellent teaching team for which I thank them.
I must also mention that we have other excellent Dan grades from other Seijitsu clubs in our organisation who teach our class when requested.

Instructors of Dragonfly Aikikai:

Sensei Tony Brown 5th Dan - Uchi Deshi to Shihan T.D Bayliss

Sensei Tony Brown has over 20 years experience in the study and practice of Aikido. Tony is qualified to BAB coach level 1, holds a teaching qualification and is ratified as an Advanced Weapons Instructor. He enjoys teaching at both club and association level.

Sensei Tony says:

I began studying Aikido as a child at my local youth club. I have spent time training as a live-in student at the New York Aikikai in the USA, which concluded in being awarded Shodan (1st Dan Black Belt) by Yoshimitsu Yamada Shihan 8th Dan.

Tony's style of Aikido and teachings are explained in his book entitled The Way of The Black Star, published in 1997 by Pentland Press (ISBN 1-85821-503-X). This book is available in many libraries and bookshops. It is also available through www.amazon.co.uk.

Sensei Nicholas Watson 2nd Dan

Instructors

Sensei Nick has been practising Aikido for about 7 years, prior to which he was involved in kick boxing and amateur boxing. Sensei Nick says:

After University I took up Aikido and achieved the rank of 1st Dan in December 2004. I train regularly at Great Wyrley where I'm also involved in the teaching, ocasionally taking the class.

Nick achieved his 2nd Dan in December 2006.

Sensei Neil Howie 2nd Dan

Sensei Neil began practising Aikido in 1992, achieving Shodan in December 2004 and Nidan in December 2006. Prior to this he trained in Karate and Wing Chun Kung Fu, and spent many years in competitive powerlifting. Neil is also involved in instructing the Childrens classes.

Sensei Neil says:

My experience in powerlifting has taught me the importance of centering, correct form and breath-power (Ki), all of which are important in Aikido. When teaching the children I feel it is important to instill confidence and discipline, but also to make the lessons enjoyable and interesting.
