IMPORTANT>>>> Summer School 2009
DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND OUR CONTROL, WE HAVE HAD TO POSTPONE SUMMER SCHOOL 2009. PLEASE CONTACT SHIHAN BAYLISS OR YOUR INSTRUCTOR FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.
PLEASE ACCEPT OUR APOLOGIES FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE CAUSED.

February 2009 Instructors Refresher Course
Our annual refresher course produced another good attendance this year. Shihan Bayliss was going to discuss "Clubs for All" but this was postponed because other important BAB issues from the year needed to be shared with all instructors.
Insurance, 1st aid, child protection, Clubmark, P.I/Assist only and coaching were on the main agenda. A significant amount of time was spent discussing how we run future courses and gradings. An agreement was reached and put into place for our June 2009 Course & Grading.

December 2008 Course & Grading
This was another succesfull, well attended course with gradings across the board. Congratulations go to Pat Altree and Scott Tamplin on being awarded 1st Dan.
The grading panel were especially impressed by David Cheshire, who gave an exceptional performance on his 1st Kyu grading. Many instrucors felt he should have been graded higher but the Principal Coach felt it was better not to, but gave him an excellent report saying that it had been a long time since he had seen such a good grading and was looking forward to seeing David take 1st Dan.

New Associations
We would like to welcome two associations have joined Seijitsu in recent months- Kogusoku Aikido run by Sensei Geoff Aisbitt and The NIA National Independant Aikido Association run by Sensei Kevin Christie.
Sensei Aisbitt has been involved in Martial Arts and Self Defence since the mid 1970's, teaching and training in various locations around the world.

Sensei Christie was formally a joint head and board member of the aikido Fellowship of Great Britain prior to establishing a number of clubs in his own right in 2009. He was also a student of Shihan Ralph reynolds and has over 30 years of experience as a highly respected Aikidoka and senior instructor. He is well known regionally, nationally and internationally having worked, lived and trained in Europe for for several years.

Clubmark
Dragonfly Aikikai has been awarded Clubmark status. Clubmark was introduced in 2002 by Sport England to:
  • Ensure that accrediting partners apply core common criteria to ensure that consistent good practice and minimum operating standards are delivered through all club development and accreditation schemes.
  • To empower parent(s)/carer(s) when choosing a club for their children.
  • To ensure that Clubmark accredited clubs are recognised through a common approach to branding.
  • To provide a focus around which all organisations involved in sport can come together to support good practice in sports clubs working with children and young people.
Clubmark accreditation is awarded to clubs that comply with minimum operating standards in four areas:
  • The playing programme
  • Duty of care and child protection
  • Sports equity and ethics
  • Club management
A great deal of work went into achieving this status and we believe it represents a positve step forwards for the Juniors in our organisation.
