Post Results Service following GCSE Results at WGS
A simplified summary of the service offered by exam boards
Statements of Results are released on Thursday 21 August 2008. Certificates of Results are to be collected and signed for at the General Office during the following December. Hopefully you have worked hard for your exam result and are happy with the outcome … but if not, the following service is available to help you.
The service falls into three categories:
1. Access to Scripts (ATS) - original scripts returned to WGS
2. Enquiry about Results (EAR) - clerical re-check, re-mark, re-moderation
3. Appeals - following 2.
1. Access to Scripts (ATS)
This is rarely of use to an individual candidate except as an extra part of 2. Deadline 1 October; 4 pm.
2. Enquiry about Results (EAR)
(a) Clerical Re-check (also called Service 1 EAR)
This is simply a checking of addition on the original scripts and that all steps of numerical procedures have been followed correctly to the award of the grade. This service is rarely used by students/parents. This costs about £10 per result. If this service is requested with ATS above, the total is about £30. Deadline 17 September 4 pm. (b) (i) Re-mark (also called Service 2 EAR)
All of 2(a) is completed and in addition, the script is marked again by a senior examiner. This costs about £55 per GCSE script and £65 with ATS. The deadline is 17 September 4 pm.
(c) Re-moderation (also called Service 3 EAR)
This service is normally only requested by the school where it is felt that a group of marks is inconsistent. Deadline 17 September 4 pm.
3. Appeals
These are handled by the school on an individual basis.
Payments by cheque made payable to "Wolverhampton Grammar School" must have details of the request (candidate name and number, and paper subject details) on the reverse and be addressed "Post Results Services", being handed in or posted to the General Office at WGS. Prices are given approximately above since they vary from year to year and between Examination Boards; accurate costs are given on the Web Form. Parental requests for these services cannot proceed without prior payment of the appropriate fee. The final grade awarded may be confirmed, raised or lowered following any part of an Enquiry about Results.
All parts of the Post Results Service are administered through the school by Dr Edlin and parents will be kept informed throughout the EAR process. There are deadline dates and many other conditions which apply to these services.
