STEPHEN McGUINNESS

All your piping needs in one small package

Ø      Steve has been a piper for over 27 years and has played in many varied and interesting locations throughout the world. His experience gathered during this time puts him in a position of being able to adapt to any job, or location and still provide a professional show.

Ø      Born & bred in Northern Ireland, he began learning piano from an early age and has been doing music ever since. Steve began learning the pipes in a local pipe band where his musical background soon put him in a position of taking over as pipe major.

Ø   He also plays the flute and trumpet and recently took up the bassoon. Steve attended University of Ulster and graduated with a 2:1 Hons Degree in Music specialising in the piano.

Ø      He now works as a professional musician in London but in his spare time plays with The Pride of Murray, a Hounslow based Grade 3 competition band, and is Pipe Sergeant of the Halton Voluntary Pipes and Drums, a Grade 4 Band based near Aylesbury.

Ø      His solo pipe playing has taken him to Hungary, Washington, Atlanta, Tunisia, Egypt, Norway, Ascension Islands, Germany, France and Latvia to play for dinners in Embassy’s and at special ceremonies like the unveiling of the new Hercules C-130J aircraft or a countries bi-centennial celebrations in Tunisia.

Ø      Steve has piped for weddings, birthdays, Christmas & children’s parties, corporate dinners & events, funerals, and many others up and down the country, not forgetting Burns Suppers and New Years Eve.

Ø      He has also had the fortune to perform at 2 Edinburgh Military Tattoos, The Royal Tournament, on Horse Guards Parade, in front of Buckingham Palace, the Royal Windsor Horse Show and for members of the Royal Family at prestigious events.

Ø      His repertoire is wide and varied from the traditional Scottish to (as his name would suggest) the traditional Irish.

Ø      Steve has three different tartans and two styles of uniform to fit any occasion. Murray of Atholl, Douglas and the new RAF tartan in both full highland regalia and day dress.

Ø      Distance is not too great a problem (within reason) but as the saying goes “If I can’t do it, then I almost certainly know a man who can”.
