Autumn Epic Cyclosportive 2009- 9 / 10 / 2009
On Sunday 4th October Four Dursley riders rode the Autumn Epic Sportive on 4th October. The event was set in Knighton Powys, and took in the beautiful scenery of mid Wales and the Elan Valley.
The four, Andy Muit, Jeremy Evererd, Ed Martin and Brendan Lynch set off together to cover the 95 mile hilly route. The first 15 miles were undulating then we hit the first climb and our group split apart, regrouping on the steep 40mph decent. The route continued to go up and up until a fast decent took us to Rhyder, the first feed stop.
From Rhyder a three mile climb over into the stunning Elan Valley, with narrow quiet roads twisting and turning along lake sides and wooded hills. Following a route with many ups and downs. At 70 miles we arrived at the foot of the awsome Glas-Cwm Hill, 28% in parts and straight up with many riders walking.
After many more smaller climbs, with 3 miles to go the final climb, a leg sapping 2 miles with a one mile fast decent back into Knighton.
The event was well organised and marshalled, with motor cycle safety officers throughout the route. At the finish was a delicious meal of bean stew for every rider, which was very welcome after our hard ride .
All four Dursley riders finished in a respectable time and thoroughly enjoyed the event.
Ed Martin - 05:56:27
Brendon Lynch - 06:00:58
Andy Muitt - 06:12:47
Jeremy Evered - 06:20:02

Severn RC open TT 10 mile on the U7b
Wind with you on the way out, I think later riders had the worst of the weather with a strong head wind on the homeward leg. But the heavy rain held off, with only very light rain at the end. John Sirrett of Dursley RC - did a very good 23:28. meanwhile Scott Hayward of Dursley RC did 26:02 (PB) and came 4th in the Juniors
Dursley Road Club/ WTTA Hardriders 25, July 7th 2007
Fortunately, the recent rain kept away and although the weather played its part with the usual strong westerly winds blowing across the course, six riders beat the hour with the Chippenham Wheelers Team once again winners averaging nearly 26mph. The U109 is still a demanding ‘hard-riders’ course, making Ben Anstie’s winning time of 56:37 just 13 seconds short of the course record an exceptional performance. Last year’s winner Jeff Jones pipped into second by just one second!
All of the finishers get our congratulations, with special mention to the prize-winners, including Ben Anstie (1st), Jeff Jones (2nd) and Chris Madge (3rd) - Ben led Chippenham & District Wheelers to the team award with Jeff Jones and Simon Snowdon. The Vets Prize was won with by Pete Wilson of Bath CC and Aileen Brown also of the Bath CC took the woman’s prize for the 4th year. Aaron Preece made a determined ride to take the Junior’s prize. see results page for full details

Winter Club Runs
Dursley Road Club "Club run" are on a Sunday and are geared to the slowest rider. We are always pleased to see anyone new who might care to join us.
We meet at the Tesco’s in Cam, Dursley at 09:00 The rides take us through the breathtaking countryside and picturesque towns and villages of the Cotswold’s.
A regular stop is made along the route at café at around 11 (approximately 2/3 of the way around) invariably at the café or a café of a garden centre.
Distances covered vary with the time of year. We typically ride a route of 40 - 50 miles. Don't worry if the distances seem daunting, there is always the option to just ride to the café and then return after this. It’s a good way of meeting club members and getting fit.
