Duxford is a licensed airfield - this means that flying for ‘hire or reward’
Can take place, whether it is flight training, or pleasure flights as operated

Duxfords day to day license category is C.A.A. ‘CAT 2’ - (aircraft up to, but not
Including 12 metres in length, and no more than 2 metres fuselage width)
The response requirements for the Fire Service are;
- To respond to any aircraft movement area on the airfield (Runways, taxiways, parking
areas)
Plus up to 1000m either end of the runway
- As far as practicable meet a response time of TWO minutes, (no more than three) to
these areas and within three minutes have media (foam, dry powder, etc) being applied
at not less than 50% of the required rate of application.
- The above 2-3 minute time frame is for fixed wing aircraft, for rotary wing aircraft
(helicopters)
We must be ON SCENE AND HAVE MEDIA BEING APPLIED in no more than TWO
minutes
Media requirements for CAT 2;
- 710L of foam - comprising 670L of water & 40L of foam concentrate
- Delivery rate at least 550L per minute
Complementary media
- Dry Powder or Halon 90Kg,
- CO2 180Kg
This complementary media may be substituted at the rate of 1L of foam per 1Kg of
Dry Powder or Halon, but a minimum quantity of complementary media must be carried
(9Kg of either Dry Powder or Halon if they are the only complementary media, 18Kg
of CO2 if that is the only complementary)
- A 200% reserve of Foam concentrate and 100% reserve of Complementary media has to
be maintained
Both our TACR2a Range Rovers carry 909L of pre-mixed foam, 18Kg of Dry Powder, and
10Kg of CO2
Any Rapid Intervention Vehicle * such as a TACR2a must;
- Be capable of acceleration to 50 MPH (80 KM/H) in less than 25 seconds
- Have a top speed of not less than 65 MPH (105 KM/h)
- Must be all wheel drive
