CLUB COMPETITIONS 2008-9

During the playing season which ended in May 2009, East Cheshire held FOUR different competitions for club members.

  1. Our Swiss Rapidplay Tournament (10 minutes each per game) is an all-play-all Swiss-type competition. This season it was held on December 10th, when the competition was deservedly won by Phil Ramsey, scoring 5.5 / 6. The competition for those with ECF grades below 100 was won by Paul Tunnah. Congratulations to both!
  2. Clubman Tournament (2 minutes per move) scoring 1 for a loss, 2 for a draw, and 4 for a win, playing up to 2 games against all the other competitors. This was won by Alan Stokes for the third successive year, with Ian Vaughan runner-up.
  3. Matchplay Competition (based on results in team matches) scoring 1 for a win and 0.5 for a draw. In the season 2008-2009, Ian Vaughan was the winner, and David Taylor was runner-up by a narrow margin over Phil Ramsey. Congratulations to both players!
  4. Quickplay Tournament. This new competition was unfinished in 2008-9 and has now been abandonned in favour of a change in the rules for the Clubman's Competition, which will now include Quickplay games (30 min per player for all moves) as well as standard rate of play games.
