SOME CHESS EVENTS IN OUR AREA
There are a number of Chess Congresses and Tournaments in and around Greater
Manchester each year.
- Stockport Rapidplay. Held annually on the first Sunday in February, this event is usually very well-attended by our members. It was held this season on Sunday 1st February 2009. Contact Peter Taylor (0161 440 0733) or visit

- GMCCA Weekend Congresses. The Manchester Chess Federation hosts several

- Bolton Rapidplay Tournament and Bolton Easter Congress. There is an annual
Rapidplay Tournament at Bolton in November (write to Chess Congress, 21 Argo St,
Bolton BL3 6TT). The Bolton Easter congress is around the end of March at the Bolton
Excel Centre, Lower Bridgeman Street, Bolton. Contact

- Blackpool Chess Conference. This is usually held in March at the
Winter Gardens. Visit their website http://www.blackpoolchess.org.uk

- Huddersfield Chess Congress. This is normally held in May and information can be obtained from Nigel
Hepworth, 71 Fixby Rd, Huddersfield HD2 2JB.
- Heywood Chess Congress. This will be held at Heywood Civic Centre on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st June 2009. The Congress Director is Bill O'Rourke (email: worchess at ntlworld dot com)
- Atherton Rapidplay. Atherton organize an annual Rapidplay Tournament in March. Contact Peter Mulleady (01942 878889)
