After an outstandingly successful season in 2007-2008, the A-team was promoted to the Ist Division of the Stockport League, where it came up against the best players in the League. After a string of early defeats, we feared we might be relegated, but thanks to some outstanding performances by those who have played this season for the A-team, we did enough to retain our place in the top division of the League. We also reached the Final of the Charnley Cup Knockout Competition, for the second time in four years, although at the Final we were predictably and convincingly beaten by Stockport Chess Club.
We are very keen to offer a place in our A-team to any player with a current ECF grade of over 140 (new grade). So . . . if you think you would enjoy playing for us in the Stockport 1st Division, for the season starting in October 2009, please get in touch with the A-team captain, Keven Holton. If you aren't sure of your playing strength, or do not have a current ECF grade, come along on a Wednesday evening at 7.30 pm for a few trial games!
