Environment Minister Jonathan Shaw:
"We all have a right to enjoy our public
spaces, but keeping them clean is a costly job.
"It's not just down to our local authorities
- everyone has a part to play in keeping our streets clean -
there's much more we can all do to cut down on litter. I
hope this information will also encourage people to think
more carefully about how they treat their local
environment."DEFRA

"When I see graffiti and rubbish I get upset. I want people to
realize it's an offence to the human eye and our beautiful
surroundings to daub graffiti an throw rubbish. I feel really
strongly that it's my human right not to have that done to me:
it's a moral and physical offence to me wellbeing."

Dan Rogerson, MP for North Cornwall
"I agree with you that litter is a serious
problem, especially in remote and rural areas such as ours.
It is a tremendous shame that many parts of the naturally
most beautiful part of Britain are spoilt by people who drop
litter.
As you point out, litter not only spoils our towns, cities
and countryside but it also costs tax payers money to clean
it up. Littering is irresponsible and unforgivable."
